Hi guys, I'm new to the forums and recently got into modding my Red 2016 VT. At first it started with some cosmetics, but now I'm going for performance and sound. These are my first experiences with performance parts and mechanical functions of a car so please bare with me if I sound ignorant.
I recently ordered the 409 XP cat back exhaust (MBPR) from the website "Socalgarageworks.com" which I've had good dealings with so far. The thing is, the whole system looks used. All of the piping, except maybe the resonator I believe, looks somewhat dirty and greasy in some places. I was wanting to know is that normal/expected from a new system? As in maybe from the fabrication? Or is it possible this is a returned defective unit that somehow got sold back to me instead of going where it should?
I definitely want to get to the bottom of it before I decide to install/pay someone to install this on my car, especially since I've seen these exhausts can be hit or miss with faulty piping somewhere causing hums.

Defined not the best pics, can take more when I get off of work. But also it seemed like visible orange particulates/rust in the inside of a couple.
Agreed, it should be clean out the box. Its 409 so it will blacken over time, but most of the ss catbacks ive seen are downright pretty before install. Im sure someone who owns the same kit you purchased will chime in. These are just my two
Compared to their own pic the one they sent you is a piece of crap. It's not like the pic is of some generic exhaust. It's the VT exhaust they are showing so it should match.
If it were me I would send it back and if you paid with a credit card or paypal dispute the charge as item received not the same as advertised.

Looks like bad quality control from the manufacturer. Didnt bother to clean it before sending it... here is what my Greddy looked like out of the box.

409 you'll see some surface discoloring/rust. Very possible they sent you back out a returned unit. May not actually be defective or have poor fitment, people return parts for all sorts of reasons. Doubt they'll do much to help you if there isn't a issue with fitment or missing parts.
Honestly, I'd clean it up to your liking then fit it to the car, but that's just me. Some folks wouldn't want it I guess. I'm sure you can return the exhaust but you may have to pay restocking fees so look into that before you send it back.
Next time buy 304SS it's worth the extra couple bucks. Silly to me that they even offer anything but 304SS

I'd return it and ask for my money back. If they cant even clean it up before boxing it, why would you want to install it on your car? Apparently they really don't car about their products.
