The insulator breaking loose is most often caused by over torquing the spark plugs. I had the same thing happen with my tuned 16VT DCT. When the mechanic replaced the plugs using a torque wrench set to the OEM spec of 12 to 14 lbs I haven't had another one break.

Thanks, read all threads, interesting. Since I have a 13 motor in my 14 VT I don't plan on going wild on the tune. Will consider what has been tested. Think the 1422s will be fine in my 6EE tune as have had no problems with the NGK 7 range in there now. Thanks for the info and thread, much appreciated, blessings, Whiz

You don't have to quote me to make your point. I'm not a moron and my plugs were not overtorqued.

1422s are not durable plugs when pushed or stressed. Period.

I have mine dumped just under the motor and get no fumes in the cabin. I don't see a benefit to running them the length of the car.

HKS are made by NGK if anyone wondered.

    So quality should be same.

But HKS are a recessed insulator design. So different approach. I believe makes them less prone to breakage under adverse conditions. Like detonation from bad fuel...
