I replaced the lift struts on an Xterra with ones that were stronger/slightly longer to lift it higher as I kept hitting my head.

yeah.. I dont really plan on fighting with them over this, not worth it..

But yeah, they really didnt last long even before the wing.
If you guys would like to get an idea of how damn powerful those lifters are, take both of them off and open up your hatch.. damned thing is heavy..
They have a helluva job to do.

Resurrecting this thing after a year because once again its cold any my lifters are failing..
If my hatch lands on my head/back one more time im going to weld a lower hinge and a step ladder to the inside the hatch so its opens downward..

Alternately. .Id like to request once again that if ANYONE can find a rear lifter that will work better than the stock one.. PLEASE let us know!

I take it you don't see anything in that LINK [above] to McAllister's wide variety of gas struts??? Was HOPEFUL - I too added a Wing and tell it has made it much heavier feeling.

I bought a few different ones from local automotive stores and none of them held worth a crap..
I saw the link, but I'm hoping someone else already got some and knows exactly which ones to buy.

I emailed RedLine about it and they said if we can send them the measurements they can get one for us that fits.
Ill see what I can do when I get a chance.. if anyone happens to know the dimensions from socket to socket while open and closed, and the force rating, I will pass it on.

As much as I open and shut the hood I would fatigue any hydraulic strut. Screw it I like old school.

You can always just get a CF trunk, that should make it light enough for the stock struts.
