So this weekend I determined myself to plasti dip my wheels and paint the calipers since the wheels I wanted were backordered and who knows when I will be able to get them. I have never done plastidip but for a first timer I think it was not too bad. The only problem is that after it dried up it started getting patches where it looked to be melting. I did this outside and it was pretty much boiling...could that have been it or maybe my technique wasn't the best? I tried to do thin coats but the eventual over-spray did happen. Anyways I am leaving them on for a while cause I think it looks good overall but if the patches start to annoy me I'll just take it off. Tell me what you guys think.

i like the look of the wheels and the calipers. i have not seen the problem you had with the wheels but my first guess would be how did you clean them before spraying the PD?

Warm water and a cloth...nothing crazy...should I have used a special cleaner?

They recommend some pretty heavy duty cleaning before dipping wheels on the dipyourcar forums

It looks like the first layer or two didn't bond well and started to peel back. Any chance you got some water on it prior to spraying or in-between coats?

No it was dried up thoroughly....

Off-topic question, it says the Devil eyes turn off when headlights are turned on. would it work with the lights set to Auto as well? and when the devil eye turns off does it turn on a regular headlight?

Edit: if it just turns off the Devil eye and doesn't turn on a reg white headlight, how is the visibility at night?

It was caliper paint you get at autozone...surprisingly very good quality

And yeah the lights are exled...they are the best in the business when it comes to lights

Peel it off and then clean it with denatured alchahol after a mild soap/water combo. This should ensure a good bond between the rim and the PD. Or you can always just get the pre-dip from Dipyourcar.com
