COSTA MESA, California — Pricing on the 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo will be announced on Wednesday, but Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik told Inside Line that the turbo model will be $1,600 more than the base model when it is launched this summer.

Based on that price point, the Veloster Turbo will squeak in below the psychologically important under-$20,000 mark and also be cheaper than one of its chief Japanese competitors, the 2012 Honda Civic Si.

The base 2012 Hyundai Veloster starts at $18,075, including a $775 destination charge. The base Civic Si starts at $23,345, including a $790 destination charge.

"There is lots of equipment difference between the base Veloster and the base Veloster Turbo," said Krafcik in a phone conversation with Inside Line.

The 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo will be equipped with standard leather trim and heated seats, along with Hyundai's BlueLink communications system. An options package called "Ultimate" adds a panoramic roof. The Veloster Turbo will also be offered with matte exterior paint, a rarity in the industry.

The Veloster Turbo rollout comes at a time when many of Hyundai's U.S. dealers have waiting lists for the base Veloster.
