So a couple of weeks ago, I was trying to crack my headlights so I could switch out the stock LED “eye” rings with ones that change colors. In the process of doing so, I melted the headlight assembly. I’m 17 and I finally saved up enough money from my minimum wage job to get a new headlight assembly. After looking around the internet, it seems that for a couple of OEM 2016 VT projector headlights the damage will be upwards of $1100. I was wondering if anyone here could inform me of a cheaper compatible alternative or if anyone has any they are looking to sell at a discount I’d really appreciate it!

Could be worth checking with some wreckers. car-part.com is a good place to start looking.
Still often pricey, but there might be something near you that's more reasonable than the list prices.

You can get the Korean OEM headlights off ebay for ~$700 shipped. Or you can go for the aftermarket (black or silver) headlights with sequential indicators for under $400 but the quality is dubious.

I put the headlights in the oven to soften the sealant, a risky move I know, but although it worked it did not work well. Shoulda gone with a heat gun....

Ah that makes sense. I honestly never though about having to break that seal. How hard is replacing the LED boards with new ones? Is it basically swap em and plug the wires in or do you have to solder it it or what?

I have been looking at paying a bit more for prebuilt aftermarket lights since I haven't done the boards before.

If you’re going to buy aftermarket lights just buy the completed assembly. Cracking the lights and installing LEDs was not worth the hassle at all. It is just plug and play, no rewiring or soldering is necessary. I melted the covers and broke just about every clip, albeit I’m not super experienced, but clips are just easy to break. Now I have to buy a new assembly and wish I’d have just bought an aftermarket setup.

I did the clear corners for my 98 escort in the tub.

Turn up the water heater.
Wait.

Fill tub with hottest water.
Don’t burn your hands okay?
Dunk.

I don’t know how the LEDS will like the dunk in the tub.

But. If you let everything dry I think it would be fine??

I have replaced my 2016 oem headlight with a used one in good condition for 160 bucks on letgo & offerup apps. I've found hella other used parts too that were definitely cheaper than going to websites.
