Same on the crunchyness..Its is not "always" a smooth shift... but it does change during the course of the drive.
I haven't experienced that at all.

Sometimes when it's cold shifting in to R-1-2 are a little crunchier than I would like at first though.

My only issue has been with reverse. I might notice some more stuff with the weather rapidly dropping here in Saskatchewan when I go to start my car after a few days of inactivity.

I have a appointment at my dealer for 9am friday... It might not amount to much since prior experience's with me hearing strange sounds coming from velosters has always led to service manager's saying "the technician did not hear anything".... so we will see.

yeah thats the story when it comes to stealerships.....as for the noise, i find if i drop into 2nd then go into reverse there is no "grinding" I assume the syncros are the true culprit.

There should never be a loud rattling noise on any car when the clutch is pushed in. It is normal to hear a whine if you are in 1st and going more than like 10mph because the wheels are spinning the transmission and 1st gear is very low - so it is spinning very fast.

The dealership works for me, not the other way around. I don't care what they say, I will make sure that my issue is recorded in to their system exactly as I describe it. Anything less than that will require the service manager or a call to 1-800-Hyundai before I will take it off their lot.

That said, my dealer has already called me as part of a quality program and asked me if anything was not 100% to my satisfaction and told me to bring it back in if I have any problems at all during the next year and they will give me a loaner and another free oil change.

put some little ball bearings in a empty pop can and shake it around... thats the best I can describe it.
What about this for the noise -- have a light-weight aluminum box, about 2'x2'x2', put about 5 of the little metal jacks (like in the kids game), and then very slowly rotate the box, so the jacks will just barely slide along. That sound like your noise?
That's what I listened to this morning, for about four mins just after starting in ~45*F temps, while in neutral with clutch engaged (pedal not depressed).

Ya that sounds like the same issue... i was told (not by my dealer) but a friend of mine who is a mechanic that it is the bearing on the input shaft that is bad and should be replaced . That it was either bad when installed or didnt seat properly. So I will have it at the dealership tomorrow morning hopefully it will still be making the noise and I can get them too fix this issue. But I am worried they will say they cant hear it and won't do anything..... so I'll have to drive it until it grenades and ruins the whole transmission. I'll just have to wait and see.

Well what happened was exactly what I thought would happen.. Start the car this morning in about 40 degree weather... makes the noise. Drop it off at my dealer less than 2 miles away( so it didnt really warm up) they tell me they are going to leave it sit for 2 hours or so and then start it up and listen for the noise. I say ok...well if your going to have the car all day then I will need a loaner. The service rep. says " I'll have to check with a salesman about that". But we can give you a ride back home and come pick you up when it's ready? I say ok.. they drop me off at home.. at 1:45pm the service rep. calls me and says they cant hear the noise. and he can't get a hold of anyone about a loaner. I kind of start to go off on him...then he says let me keep it a few more hours.. I say fine. He calls me back at 4pm and says he is sending someone to get me. I get to the dealership... they give me the run around... hand me my key and say maybe bring it back Monday? No paper work.... nothing So the rep. follows me out... I start the car and imeditally can tell the car hadn't ran for at least an hour if not longer. And it's making the noise. He finally admits he can hear it... but says "I don't know what that is" ? "Bring it back Monday ". So I leave... sit at home getting more pissed off.... I call the salesman I deal with and voice my displeasure. He talks with his boss... they tell me to bring it back... assure me that the problem will be taken care of properly this time and give me a Chevy Cruise to drive. So no fix yet... and once again I have to raise hell to get any results.

Just got a call from the service rep. after they have had the car all weekend... they can finally hear the noise and theyare saying it's the throw out bearing or something with the clutch... they have to order parts.... this really sucks... only have 1200 miles on the car and they already have to tear into it and fix something... why did I buy another Veloster??? First NA V sucked...this one looks like its going to be full of wonderful issues as well.

Sorry to hear about you having to press the dealer so hard. They don't want to perform service if they can't document the symptoms. But they do want to perform warranty service because they get paid for it. Given the initial quality of current Hyundai's they were skeptical of your problem at first.

But bottom line, they did fix your problem at no cost and provide you a loaner once they could reproduce your problem.

Well looks like I spoke too soon... started the car last night at 1am when I got out of work... making the same noise again... started it this morning...making the same noise again... It also poped out of 3rd gear on me 3 times last night when I was driving home... and there is alot of vibration in the shifter when in 1st and 2nd gear. So if they replaced the throw-out bearing.. now it pops out of gear and has alot of vibrations it didnt have before... and it is still making the same noise... what could it be???? Got it back to the dealer this morning... at least this time they didnt give me any B.S. about a loaner.

Still no news or even a phone call as to what it going on with this car! I'm kind of up in the air with what I should try to do about this. Should I wait for this service dept. to try too figure out what is going on? Should I call Hyundai and file a complaint and request that the car be exchanged for another? It is about half way towards meeting my states requirements to qualify as a Lemon.... What do you guy's think I should do? Any and all opinions are welcome.
