Is there aftermarket shift knobs for 2013 veloster turbo manual. Having trouble finding some because they aren’t the round ones

If you can't find any made to fit then you can swap a shifter in from another year model pretty cheaply.

How could you do this exactly I don't understand what makes them so different than the newer models. something about a reverse lockout

Buy a short shifter from a Rally or an R-Spec then put a knob on that and replace the shifter bushings while doing this for the most benefit.

what is the shifter bushings? i don't mean to sound like a total noob. haha

Bushings to tighten up the shifter to feel firmer during the shift.
