Am I the only one glad to not own a Matte Grey VT??

Well let me put this first out in the air for the Matte Grey owners. I love the color of the Matte Grey VT but damn I couldn't stand having go through all this cleaning deal. I rather just use my detail spray to wipe off the bug debris on my front bumper or the whole car and call it a day.

I agree with you. I love the color, but I am glad I don't have to deal with all of the extra cleaning steps.
I cannot say that I am glad I do not have one, it gives the wrong feel to my opinion on it. When I was deciding on color and got an idea of the maintenance requirements, it was simply removed from the list of choices. If I had the time to spend maintaining it, I would have purchased it. I just prefer to spend my time on other things.
it seems harder than it looks but to me thats how I`ve washed all my new cars, it does save time on polishing though :p
I have the matte grey VT and it actually takes me only 1/2 hour to complete a wash and 5 mins. to dry. No waxing for sure. Many that see it say, "looks like a primer to me" and then after a second look say, 'that kinda grows on you'. It's so unique!
Hmmmm, see, there it is - I'm washed in 10 minutes ($5 in a car wash bay, pre-wash, pressure soap, pressure rinse, spot free rinse) and 10 minutes to dry and quick detail where needed. Is there a quick detailer for matte paint, so you can clean up any bugs or bird stains between washes?
I'm actually reconsidering whether or not I should have bought a matte grey one.

The people that actually own them say that it is not a big deal to care for them. The car wash where I take my VT handles matte finishes and they only charge $5 extra for them. It would be cool to have my VT pull in to the matte finish line behind Lamborghinis.

For 2013 at least the VT is a very limited production car, MT versions are more limited and matte grey versions even more limited still. There might be less than 100 matte grey VTs with the MT option produced.

I'm not saying that the VT will become collectible, and I didn't buy my VT because I thought it would become collectible.

However, if you watch those auto auctions on TV the VT does fit the bill for a collectible car. It is produced in limited numbers, it is a sports car, there is limited awareness and interest in them, it is the first version of a new model, it represents new technology and there is a special version that could come with a MT but most of them do not. Plus we are looking at the last generation of mainstream cars that will probably be offered with an MT. I think 10 years from now an MT will be a relic that will only be an option on the most esoteric sports cars.

I bought my VT because it was unique, and much to my surprise, it offered an MT - and not just any MT - a really well engineered 6 speed MT. By far the most unique thing about the VT is the matte grey paint. Porsche and Ferrari offer matte paint only as part of special editions and Lamborghini is the only other company (that I know of) to offer matte paint as a stock option. Matte paint on a Lamborghini costs about $13,000 and they probably produced more of them than Hyundai did matte grey VTs.

So I really applaud Hyundai for offering matte paint. It was a big step for them. Supposedly Hyundai had to set up the factory for each (this one) batch of VTs and they had to take two passes through the paint process in order to get this special finish - which is very unique for their production line.

I think in the long run the matte grey VT is the one to have.

Not sure about that mate I just do mine by hand at home. something I am looking into though
No offense to the OP, but I hate forum threads titled "Am I the only one...." The law of averages makes confident assumptions that you're never going to be the only one with a particular preference. Okay, mini-rant over :)

That aside, I agree with velosiraptor. I can't say I'm glad to NOT own one, but if I felt I had enough extra time to care for the finish.. I wouldn't mind it. One of the biggest reasons I didn't get it though is I was also partial to black, and that happened to be the only one on the dealer lot I went to, so she became mine :)
If it was matte BLACK, then I'd really have wanted it. But since it was grey, and the only one I found was an auto and cost like $5k more which was $3,000 over my budget I decided to say no way. I was shopping for black cars though when I found my Boston Red, and it really was just love at first sight I guess. I still get excited looking at my car 4 months later here.

I do LOVE matte finishes though. It just showes off the lines of a car so much better. I kinda wish it didn't get so popular, because not to get all hipster but I liked it before it was cool. LOL. But no, seriously It's been a car related fetish of mine all the way back to primered up sleepers back in the early 2000's. If it wasn't so damn expensive and such a damn process, I'd love to put matte clear vinyl wrap over my whole car. Matte red is super sexy.
With the way I like to love on my VT and always rubbing and polishing on it,,, it would not have been a good thing for me to have purchased the Matte finish. It would not last a month. I swear, I just want to make it shine every time I walk by my VT. Can't stand it, with anything on it. Got a real love affair goin on here.

I thought about it for a while but decided against it .. esp when i thought of the fact I could paint the whole car matte grey with a dip your car kit for a couple hundred and wash the car normally lol

that being said if I didnt live in an area that had snow I would've probably got it.. but being we get a good amount here and I dont have a garage it would've been a PITA

I think if you had a matte some of you wouldn't be having the conversation. It literally takes 20 minutes to wash and Dr. Beasley's makes paint cleanser and stain remover for the paint. I love mine BUT I could see some guys being hesitant about not wanting the obvious worries/risks of owning one. Cheers
I think the matte looks sick.. I just chickened out :)
I have owned my Matte Gray since October and it still looks perfect. This is by far the easiest car to keep clean I think. I originally wanted Orange, but when I saw a Matte Gray in person I knew I wanted it. Pictures online truly do not do the car color justice, you really need to see it in person.

As for cleaning it, in the US and I think Canada is comes with Dr. Beasley cleaning kit. Includes everything that you need. It really is no different to wash than a normal car, and you get to skip the waxing. :) I have actually gone weeks between washes and its fine. That's what the sealer is for. It goes on every 6 months and takes 10 minutes to do if that. I think too many people just don't know that much about Matte Gray paint so they assume its hard. Really the only downfall is not being able to go through a car wash, but honestly you shouldn't anyways. The brushes just cause more scratches that you have to wax/buff out.

A great benefit to the Matte Gray is that the car never looks dirty :) The only way to tell is by rubbing your hand on it, or looking at the back window. I am pretty OCD with my cars being clean all the time, but this color as truthfully calmed my nerves.

I say if you can find a VT in Matte Gray go for it, you will not be disappointed.

Matte gray was my first choice, but I was nervous or scratching or damaging the paint so I went with elite white instead.

I was also scared to damage the paint in winter with scrapping the snow or ice off the car, but now I read more about it I wish I had gone with matte grey.

At first i didnt want one after hearing what you had to do but after hearing about how long it takes to do said stuff I wish I would have gotten one.
I ditto kmusk01. I've owned the matte grey for 2 months and washed it twice. The second time it took me 20 mins. and 5 to dry. My wife and son said, "are you finished already. That was fast!". When it rains the dirt appears to wash off quickly and the car never really looks unclean. Oh, and did I mention the car in general gets a lot of looks. Part of the interest may well be the paint job. Damn, this car is fun to drive! I turned down the radio yesterday and paddle shifted the gears and heard the Shooosh sound between shifts. I've got 2100 miles on it and it sure seems like it pulls faster to 60 mph than 7.0 seconds.
I kinda wish that I had bought the matte grey now.

Like I said before, the matte grey owners don't seem to have problems with them and the negative hype about the finish seems to be just that - hype.

But when I bought my VT getting a matte grey one with an MT was out of the question anyway.

Mark my words, one day 20 years from now you will be watching an auto auction on TV and the commentator will say something like, "They built less than 10,000 of these and the matte grey was a limited and expensive option that most people did not want at the time. There were maybe only 100 to 200 original matte grey Veloster Turbos built with the manual transmission option and they were part of the last era of cars to even offer a manual transmission. The Veloster Turbo with the matte grey finish and a manual transmission is the one to own."
No harder than any other car finish. I've had mine since halloween and it is still holding up well. Of course I didn't have much choice for color selection at time of purchase, since MT Ultimate pkg VT's were hard to find. I'd do it the same way all over again knowing what I know now. Intrested to see if other mainstream manufacturers follow this trend or if Hyundai does this finish on other models.
