after looking through all the threads , i didnt see any options , where people only took out the muffler, and left in the resinator.

has anyone done this yet, and if so , where there any gains to be felt ?
faster spool up ?

any extra HP ?

So basically you going for is straight pipe. That middle section on the exhaust that look like resonator is straight. Here a couple of photos I just took for you and other to see.

That true but not sure by what is does or how restricted it is to the stock exhaust. But I know for sure the stock muffler is really restricted. I can get that photo as well if you want it?
probably runs it into an exterior chamber and quiets it down I've seen mufflers like that before Muff i would expect really bad.. but res would be much easier of a pipe to get bent for cheap

I think Turbosocks has done just the muffler delete and kept the stock resonator. from what i understand he doesnt much like it and is going with the magnaflow 10426 muffler in place of the resonator and keeping the muffler delete. which is what im doing today. if you read some of his older post he says just the resonator is a little loud for his taste

Yeah, the stock resonator doesn't seem to be restrictive at all or do much in terms of keeping the noise down. I am going to be replacing it with a magnaflow.

Right now, I have the stock mid pipe (with stock resonator) and no muffler.. It is a bit too loud for my tastes. I am going to be replacing that eventually with a Magnaflow glasspack muffler and probably doing a downpipe without a cat. I may add a second magnaflow in the rear section if it is too loud as it wont kill the flow but get the noise down.

With just the muffler delete, you can feel a difference (and see it in the stock vs. my car comparison) in the torque numbers.

The best gains on this car I would almost guarantee would be from a catless down pipe. The airflow with the stock setup just after the turbo has to be pretty bad due to the design.

I had my VT's muffler removed last week (cost $320AU) & straight thru pipe welded in from the resonator to the back pipes outlet. It is definitely WAY more responsive now, the difference was REALLY noticeable! It is pretty loud but I like it that way & am very happy with the result!
