ok.. so apparently since it's the thing to do lately I'm thinking about trying my hand at grill fab.. however as with everything else I do... i go big lol and not necessarily the cheapest route..

also as with everything else I do .. I will probably have the option of this being for sale if others like it..

i'm looking at using either

Universal Diamond ABS Plastic Black Mesh Grill 120x40 cm Grid 3x1cm | eBay

ORRR

Universal Honeycomb ABS Plastic Black Mesh Grill 120 x 40 Cm | eBay

right now my biggest concern is the size of the openings letting alot of debris through (or just seeing to much of the FMIC for my taste lol) the holes are .39" by 1.1" and .51" high by 1.1" respectively

.. I'm also thinking of adding a piece of abs plastic behind the middle (where the crash bar is) so that way it looks more oem. I would be doing a license plate relocate to use the stock front toe hook screw to mount the plate holder

anyone have any ideas or thoughts/ concerns

if I did recreate it .. i'd think it'd be around 225 with no license plate relocation.. parts alone will be around 155 (someone said they found the grill for 72 shipped + whichever mesh) so I think thats fair considering the amount of work this will take to do

I like how you take you time and make sure that the job is done right. So I would be very interested!
thanks man :) I appreciate it .. My philosophy is do it one do it right, as well as go big or go home lol so when I work on my car I tend to try to do both at once lol

I also am a big fan of keeping it OEM looking for my cars so I try my hardest to get things custom made to look like they should've came that way

who knows maybe when I do this I'll use the extra to make some hood vents lol

I'm honestly not a big fan of those meshes. I like the woven metal myself. Will try to post a picture.
I have some friends that could make you a chainmail grill.

yea the woven metal would probably be the a cheaper price however the people that have used that style on the VT imo it looks WAY too open and no cover but I do appreciate the criticism.

yea I was thinking the honey comb is more open... but for me that might show the FMIC too much.. but i'm going to be ordering both of them... I'll probably use one and GT800 will probably use the other

looking forward to how it turns out.. I was going to try something VERY similar but decided against it because I had no idea how to go about contouring the ABS the right way so it matched the shape..

V.3 of the grill is ABsolutely WIN! with the top bar + H + honeycomb.

yea I found some flexible abs grill stuff that should work ( i figured bend it into place do a few gobs of black epoxy on the back side in some key places then tweak everything. I got the idea after being at the SFR meet i saw some grills that were the diamond shape but were plastic so i was like ok I HAVE to be able to find this lol. SO i kept looking and found it.. albeit it's quite expensive for the right size piece about 16" x about 46" this will give enough to do one grill per sheet. like i said maybe i'll try something with the left over material for the fake hood vents lol. my mission is to do something that will look remotely OEM looking while still custom :)

yea the V3 of it has the velocity look to it (well the original velocity look lol)

really though long as it turns out well I'll reproduce any version anyone wants as the work will basically be the same lol...

I tried to photoshop the diamond mesh but ... the mesh was too dense for me to cut out cleanly without a crap ton of work.. i put a total of like 30 mins into the pictures above and that was pushing it lol but I figured seeing it visually helps lol

If you can do the full replacement for around 200$ or w/e I am totally in..

The reason I wasn't interested in some of the other endevors was because FG = FAILLLLLLLLL.. Full ABS replacement = WIN!!!!

yea i'd say it'll be around 225 probably the grill mesh is 50 bux + shipping (which is 33 bux... oy) this is definitely something i'll be doing a group buy on so i can save a little bit in shipping lol and yup it'll be a full replacement the 225 would include a new grill surround unpainted and everything fully assembled :)
