Ok, so, here's the thing. I LOVE the turbo. I had a 95 eclipse GST with a 16b turbo back in the day. Traded it in for an 06 Scion tC (which I still have), and I've missed the feel of a turbo since day 1. However, I've also come to love having a sunroof in the car, and having in-dash navigation would free up my phone when I drive (google navigation). The NA Veloster isn't as bad as I thought it would be as far as power goes, but it's not as good as I'd hoped for. Specifically, I feel a major lag when I shift at high RPMs in 1-3rd gear. That sucks. Do not like.

That being said, it's only 22 less HP than my scion has, so it's not a total dog. Here's my question....are there basic mods that I can do from the start (cold air, etc) that will help it not choke so much in 1-3rd, and give me enough of a small performance boost to not notice the loss in HP from my current car? It would be a little bit less than getting the base turbo, which isn't too bad of a price.

Or, should I just say "screw it" and get the turbo and enjoy the body kit, heated leather seats, and headlights? Would that overcome the lack of sunroof, in-dash nav, and backup camera?

The power lol you have to make a pro`s and con`s list mate of what you really want from a car. At the end of the day if neither of them have exactly what you are after have you thought about any other cars? But if your heart is set on a veloster go through and find what is super important to you and work from there. to be honest this car was third on my list lol

Do yourself a favor and go for the Turbo. The NA Veloster is highly underpowered, and as you said, even a base VT is not much more than an NA V with Style/Tech. Sure you don't get a sunroof, but hell who wants one on a Veloster anyway? It's bound to explode and send shards of glass into your face.

The increased performance and amenities you get on the VT are well worth it and you would never look back if you went with the Turbo.

I thought of same thing and went w Turbo without package. No desire here for backup camera, sunroof, auto lights, or sensors. I would have paid $500 for the navigation, but I'm not that upset since you can get a nice Garmin or other for $200. And I have a friend who had a sunroof installed on his elantra for $600 and it looks like its from factory. Its not worth the premium they charge in my opinion.

We got the VT w/ Ultimate Pkg because my wife is well... spoiled, and so am I. :wink:We wanted all the gadgets. LOL! If you don't need 'em, I say go for the Base VT, get an aftermarket stereo that has Nav/BT in it and be happy w/ the extra ponies, better looking wheels/body kit and headlights! You'll be kicking yourself in the butt down the road if you go with the NAV.

JMHO.

OUCH..."The NA Veloster is highly underpowered, and as you said, even a base VT is not much more than an NA V with Style/Tech. It has the same or better performance than any equivalent compact. NO, it's not FAST, but it's certainly quick enough to have fun. I had an NA V and after 3,000 miles performance was GREAT. The "exploding sunroof" problem was identified, fixed in production late 2012 and all affected cars have been recalled. I traded my NA V for a Turbo because I wanted a really fun car before I retire -and it is! My favorite feature is the backup camera!
