Borla Exhaust Coming Soon

I just dropped my car off at the Borla facilities in Oxnard where they will use my car in the R&D process for either a full catback or axle back set up. I'm working with Alvin T. and he seemed very interested to know the type of tone veloster turbo owners would like to hear?

For starters, I mentioned that VT owners would like the exhaust note to be different from the V. As it is currently, both sound identical. Additionally, some owners would like to have some interior cabin noise from the exhaust - nothing droning.

The R&D process is 2+ weeks, I will be in touch with borla every couple days for any updates.

My 400hp s2000 had a 2.5 exhaust. I would rather stick with a 2.5.
2.5" is plenty for this engine. The displacement just isn't there for anything larger to be of use.

I agree.
2.5" is going to be plenty.. you may see some gains in some parts of the powerband but I doubt you will see any peak gains of significant value..

Alot of the turbo tib guys used 2.5" and there were plenty pushing 300+whp.

You aren't going to hurt anything by going 2.75" or 3" but if you have a budget, I don't see the reason to replace it.. The stock piping IS Stainless Steel so you don't have to worry about it falling apart in a few years.

After doing my exhaust and re-evaluating it, I think the best choice for the car is a muffler delete + resonator replacement with a high flow muffler. fsv333 or w/e did that on his and said it dropped the noise down quite a bit but the muffler/big glasspack he used (magnaflow) is a straight through core just has lots of stuff to absorb the noise.
I am trying to verify the approach they are going to take with the exhaust system. I'll keep everyone posted as I get more info.
Hey guys - I got a few responses back from Alvin:

"cat has flange behind it. Creating a cat-back is possible but cost near double a rear-section.
We could offer a mid-pipe but it won’t happen for (3) reasons:
1. Costs to build & inventory separate mid-pipe.
2.*Flanges aren’t cheap and offering separate mid-pipe & rear section requires 3-flanges.
3.*Most customers looking for performance + sound would not consider the rear-section."

It looks like it's a business decision as well. Most people who own a VT probably wouldn't want to spend $1700 on a exhaust system. It totally makes sense.

Any comments on keeping factory tips? He's asking if we are happy with the stock appearance. Any suggestions on how it should look?
I love the stock tips
stock tips
anyone interested in pure performance WOULD be interested in a rear section alone since that is where the only real restriction lies..

The piping is bent well and is plenty big. The resonator isn't going to restrict the flow. The stock piping IS Stainless Steel..

The only restrictions in our exhaust system are the cat and the axle back muffler setup..
I do like the stock tips. Not sure what would look better AND fit in with the looks of the car. The only way a different tip layout would work is if you changed the rear diffuser.
Stock tips!!! I love my grapefruit shooters! Lol They look mean :furious: How about some hp numbers???
Thats what i want... i think we have enough style.
It looks like the consensus is to keep the stock tips. I'll wait until tomorrow morning to reply back. I can't really think of a better solution than to use the stock tips. It fits in so well. Unless borla decides to use rolled polished tips as a direct replacement.
I think that will just add cost to an already pricy unit.
sent the response to keep the stock tips unless they have a suggestion for tips utilizing the stock valance/diffuser. Additionally, i'm asking if they can provide a dyno graph of before and after.
i wonder what there borla s type would sound like?
Im very interested in the outcome of this. To be completely honest, first and fore most I simply want an exhaust system that is going to set my VTs tone apart from a regular V. A nice aggressive tone would be nice. Totally agree with the stock tips. Any power gain that I get from this setup will be a nice plus.
I'll see if I can get any updates on this exhaust. Ill relay info whenever I hear from them.
Update

Alvin from Borla called to give me an update. Here are a few points that stuck out:
- the system will no longer be a rear section setup, it will be a full cat-back. He mentioned that since cost was a concern to most people, they will build it with that in mind. Only a full cat-back will be offered.
- cat-back will be preliminary development using 2.5'' piping.
- cabin drone will be handled by their patented tool/techniques.
- dynographs will be provide; however, it is recommended that each owner should run their own dynos. He mentioned that there will always be debates on the results as conditions will vary.
- distributors will handle group buy. He will try to locate some for this group. If anyone knows a distributor that is willing to do a group buy, please chime in.

More info to come next week.

Also to add - stock tips will be maintained to keep costs down.
This is such good info, thanks!
Anyone wanna take a stab at how much it will be? ;)
Also, does anyone know if there are other manufacturers out there making an exhaust for our rides yet?
