am I wrong for thinking of is pointless to do anything performance wise to a na? that if they wanted performance they should have stepped up and purchased a turbo instead? even with bolt ons and a tune they will only see a stock turbo performance if that?

or is there a huge power gain modding out a na?

Pointless? No. Not everyone can afford to exchange their NA for a VT. Not everyone wants a turbo. And some people want the challenge of an all-motor car.

When the first import tuners got on the scene I'm sure that the big v8 guys posted the same things on the walls of the YMCA, or whatever it was that they used back then prior to Internet forums.

True, a tuned NA version of our motor will never be more powerful than a tuned turbo, but if your goals are milder you can still turn out an adequate little car from the NA.

a few hp between tuners is pretty negligible. how the graphs look is what matters and everything else that was done matters.

Peak hp and peak tq are not everything. BTR getting 6 and SFR getting 10 is no reason to choose SFR over BTR.

Would have to see graphs of both to see how smooth they were (considering if they used the same type of dyno with the same smoothing factor and see a list of everything else that was done.

The same canned tune on different cars can yield a few horsepower difference easily. Food for thought.

While normally getting an extra 4-5 how is nothing when it's the difference almost double that would be like bye gettin 25 on the tv and sfr getting 40. Yes area the curve is what matters obviously but when your fighting for every hp because it's na when does it stop being negligible. Like I said sfr cuts just about .5 sec off their 1/4 mi time in their na. As Jay said peak gains look meager but overall driveability and other gains make it feel like you gain aloy more

can't really compare percentages from an NA tune and interpolate it to a FI tune..

Problem with all these tunes and dealing with numbers of 6 on BTR and 10 on SFR is it all depends on driveability, not a difference of 4 hp.. all of BTRs tunes are not going to be 6 and all of SFRs will not be 10.. The car it was tested on matters, the dyno that was used REALLY matters.

The true differences between the two tunes will show IN the dyno graph itself and when people give feedback. Also, the turbo tune differences will say a LOT more if they are different by 10+ hp and one graph has a much smoother power curve than the other.

It was a hypothetical set of number I threw out for the vt I know you can't make a direct comparison........

LOL, the tuning wars! I remember when it was important to have the first tune on the market, then 100's of people were pissed because the drive-ability was horrible. I hope they have some review's on drive-ability, performance, economy ect. I can make any number look good on the dyno... its how it drives day to day that impresses me.
