pretty well rounded review.. I enjoyed it..

I know it 'screams' it IS a hot hatch but I didn't really expect it to compare to a 'real' hot hatch, which it sounds like it doesn't. I believe with a few changes it could be close to hanging with the category though.

The only thing I was slightly disappointed in was not even an option for a LSD. Of course you can get a phantom grip installed or a quaife (when/if they become available) but it is a pain and could have done the car so much better.

Also, if they had put some better tires on it (like the kumho 4x) the car would have been better, not only in the corners but in the 1/4 mile/0-60 also. The figure 8 would have been faster as well as the average G. Kind of confused why Hyundai wouldn't have opted for better tires on a car with over 60hp more, aimed at enthusiasts..

I am actually surprised the reviews haven't really hit on the tires as part of the limiting factor. If the car came equipped with better tires, it probably would be more respected in the 'stats' category. I would assume the 0-60 would have been closer to 6.5 seconds, the 1/4 would be a flat 15 or 14.9 (with lighter base package) the AVG G could have been .86 or so and the figure 8 could have been under 27 seconds..

None of this really matters to me as I will be improving on the base platform, it is just strange that something simple like tires were overlooked which could have solved a lot of the reviewers issues with it breaking loose early and such.

Not excited to see the amount of steering play on-center :/

That is one sexy car. Overall I liked the review. He was very fair, but from everything he said I don't get why his conclusion was that it's not even close to a hot hatch. He said it is pretty close by the numbers (even performance), just not quite as fun. To me it sounds like its in the same class, just not first in class.

Edit: I forgot to mention that wheel hop. Holy cow! What causes that? Is it the open differential, or just need stickier tires? Seems like it could be much quicker off the line if it could lay down all that power.

I really need to drive one myself to really know...
I have always felt this car really needed to come with a good LSD
Defenetly, go and test drive one. I did yesterday although it was the automatic. I was surprised though, it felt pretty quick at low RPMs.
Let us know what you think after test driving one. See if you can post some pics too.

The car is very enjoyable as it is from factory. Unless you are planing on autocrossing or the track.

After personally test driving one, I think that with the following upgrades the car can go up the the GTi level (performance wise)

- Better Tires, sumer tires will do.
- LSD (limited slip differential).
- Independent suspenssion setup.

Note: the VT exhaust's note it's pretty quiet. A cat back or full exhaust will do the trick.

Aside from all these flaws I still believe it's a bad ass car. I like it a lot.
