Ya so i went around our block with my IOBD2 running just to see how it worked. I put up the screen to register what the cat temp was and was kind of shocked seeing almost 1500 degrees F. So pulled in the driveway and it was still at what the picture shows and slowly went down to 900 ish. Text Font Technology Screenshot Speedometer

Then i was reading someones page and at a low millage he said he had to have his CAT replaced..... i found this article online about "How hot does a catalytic converter get?" I think hyundai may need to fix our running rich issue faster then we think or be fixing our catalytic converters all the time.

Two Important Design Parameters
The minimum temperature at which a catalytic converter begins to function, called the light-off temperature, is 600-700 degrees F.
Vehicle manufacturers usually minimize the distance between the engine and catalytic converter. This reduces the time required for the converter to reach operating temperature, which in turn reduces cold-start emissions.

Normal Temperatures and Beyond
The ideal operating temperature range of catalytic converters is 900-1,000 degrees F, although they can, and often do, operate above this range.
However, when a converter operates above 1,300 degrees F for prolonged periods, catalysts and converter components begin to melt. The result is a gradual and usually permanent degradation in performance.

High Converter Temperatures Spell Trouble
A converter temperature can rise dramatically when an engine is badly malfunctioning or for some other reason producing an excessive amount of heat and pollutants. In such cases the catalyst temperature can exceed 2,000 degrees F. When this happens the converter becomes deactivated and conversion efficiency approaches zero.

Has anyone else seen this on their car while using Torque or any other programs???

Ok, I checked today and while it seems on the high side it always comes down when stopped. will monitor over the next month and see if it changes. Did get it to go as high as 1700+ on some acceleration runs.

Ya i had mine staying around 1600 while on the highway then drop a little but have seen it over 1800....

Just the one .. in the downpipe

There are two catalytic converters although only the first one has a lambda sensor. They sit between the downpipe and the exhaust. I found when I fitted my aftermarket exhaust the exhaust temperatures were lessened quite significantly, although I don't know if that affected catalytic converter temperatures. Fortunately Australian cars are not checked for emissions, so if the catalytic converter degrades it's not an issue.

I think I am going to put in a high flow, may cool down the cat area because of better flow.... maybe even put in a fuel pressure regulator. Maybe that will allow tuning of the running rich issue and not need to flash the ECU. Anyone know if a fuel pressure regulator could be put in?

Hyundai has an 8yr/80k mile warranty for emissions and the catalytic converter. If these temp readings are accurate Hyundai may have a problem on their hands. Aftermarket exhausts let Hyundai out of this warranty.
So should I stop by the dealer and possibly have a talk with the Service Manager about it, maybe get his thoughts?

I'm sure mine only has one unit, but it could be two units combined back to back .. it certainly only a one piece unit in the pipe. You'd have to replace it as one single item.

So on the way in to work I was watching the cat temp and it never once went below 1200. Only reason it got close was probably because I stopped at a light. At highway speed, 65-80, the cat never went below 1460 but went up as high as 1680 averaging 1560 constantly. So, I assume seeing as we are over the 1300 mark where the cat breaks down this could definitely cause performance issues and if clogged the car to not start.
I think I read a post somewhere where someone had an NA have performance issues then one day stalled ad would not start but had the car in the shop 6 times and they still could not figure out the problem. Cat clogged maybe??

I was looking at this IODB2 App and was wondering, Is the chip really worth to buy?
