I didn't see a thread on this but I really want to lower my car. My buddy talks about buying the coil overs but isn't that just mainly if your going to be racing? Like I said I'm just curious. Looks= lowering springs? Racing= coil overs? :money:

Coilovers give me more flexibility in the amount of drop at the low end. On the high end they allow for adjustment to the ride characteristics. Also some co's allow you to pick ur own spring rates.

Drop sprigs are fixed in drop and spring rates though different brands will have their own of both.

If u never plan to do a track day and are happy with a set drop id say save the cash and just get springs.

Totally don't follow this.. can you explain?
lowering springs will wear the stock shocks and struts prematurely, due to not letting the shock/strut retain full travel for compression. where as coilovers were made to be lowered substantially, and you still maintain full shock and strut travel so you wont bottom them out or blow them out

That makes sense. I think you should have shocks for your lowered suspension, so replacing the coilovers sounds like the right thing to do. They should make them with adjustable ride, that would be sweet. Which ones are the best for the VT?.. I really want to do the suspension and I want to do it right. This car needs the suspension done!

best ones...can be very subjective. Being that i have had both coils and springs/struts on the same car (my 03 elantra) I much prefer the spring/strut combo...though i must say that I matched up the shocks to the spring, so travel and dampening are correct (to the best I could do)

the coils will give you flexibility...but how often are you going to be raising and lowering the car?? and every time you do that you will need to redo the alignment. Coils are going to be much stiffer then nornal drop springs, I know that on my XD if I was on a crap road the ride was down right harsh! though on a nice smooth road or up on the highway...it was like a rock. Did not matter how much the wind was blowing or how you took a corner, it was planted. Its a nice feeling.

spring strut combo will give you a better ride, but they are fixed. There are only a handful of times that I wished i had my coils, but majority of the time, I prefer the spring/strut combo...its just easier in the long run.

^^true but coils don't have to be harsh, sounds like the spring rates were too high. When buying coilovers you have to make sure the spring rates match your individuals needs. A dd needs softer whereas as an autocross/trackday car needs stiffer with adjustibility on the damping.

You can also do a spring/strut combo though i dont know a company yet making them for the vt. In the Honda world the top of the line is Koni struts with Ground Control springs. Then if you really wanna be fancy get GC tophats.

the ride with my ngm betamax coils on 7 clicks hard is only slightly stiffer then stock

damn, I'm getting pumped to do the suspension.. I'm just going to save my money and do it all at once. 19x9.5 rims, 265/30 r19 summer tires, coilovers, white line full sway bar kit.. I'm just going to drop it off at the shop and pick it up after they finish! I imagine it will feel like a completely different car afterward! lol *snoopy dance*
