Got my cup holder LED's today and installed them this evening. The instructions were rather confusing with different instructions for manual and auto transmission woven together (they really should separate these into 2 documents) but I got it done. Should have taken about half an hour but I stretched it into 2.5 hours with chatting with the neighbor (hey he wandered over and had a million questions about the car - he's a car guy, big into tuning), watching our dogs run around, etc.

Anyway, I did things slightly different than the instructions said to, and I think it's easier. Have a read and if you are going to do this mod you may want to do it this way.

Instead of running 2 wires all the way to the power source I spliced the 2 wires for the LED's just where they came together outside the cup holders. Now you only have to wrangle one wire to the power supply instead of having two to fasten down. I then took the wire that I cut off and attached it to the power supply. I then put the power supply unit back together, put the handles back in, then attached that wire to the LED's and put the piece of car with the cup holders back together. It just seemed easer than wiring it all up with 2 sets of wires, then having to put it all together while wired up. My way I had one wire to deal with as I put 2/3 of the car back together, and it was not joined to anything. I've attached a crudely drawn diagram of this to help envision it - it really does make things easier:

Anyway, it looks fabulous. Blends right in with the dash lighting. I am very pleased. A nice little mod.

Here it is as I finished:
Vehicle audio Light Audio equipment Neon Technology

In the dark:
Light Neon Electric blue Glasses Eyewear

Blending in with the dash lights:
Black Light Sky Automotive lighting Lighting

Oh, when I popped the cover to the emergency brake this was just lying there. It had glue on one side and obviously was shaped like the cup holders. I have no idea what it was for as there was already a cottony padding attached to the underside of the cup holders as well. Anyway as it had glue, was shaped like the cup holders and must have fallen off I taped it onto the bottom of the cup holders, on top of the cottony padding and taped it down so it would stay there. If anyone has info on what this is and why it's there I'd love to know:

Cheers!

P.S. Good news! My CAI has been shipped (they said 2-3 weeks for the custom order and it was 1 week Yay TDOT!) as well as my trunk and chassis braces from Import Shark, and my spacers from GarageLine. Come on shippers! Let's beat the weekend!!!!

Does this require removing the dash to access the power supply?

No. Just the center console.

The USB console is an absolute PITA to pull however (if you have a MT).
I didn't find it that bad. I just used a small screwdriver to get under it then popped it off...

Old thread, but my new to me 2012 VT has these led cup holder lights, but their wired to be always on even when car is off.
How much current are they drawing? should I rewire them to the illumination power wire so they only come on with lights?

They don't draw that much at all. So unless you are leaving the car for a week I'd not really be that concerned.

But that said I would find a switched source and tap into that.
