Hello all. I saw a Matte veloster a while ago and it got me curious. I am in the market for a nice fast fun commuter car. I have owned a WRX and a Caliber SRT4 before amognst countless others. I'm a 44 year old guy who also might think this car might be too young for me. I own a Shelby GT500 vert for nice sunny days. I am really intrigued by this car. Can anyone tell me or direct me for comments about this car and the matte paint? Also I love these wheels on this better than the ones that come with the car. Were these an option. Thanks for your help and hope to be a long time member here soon.

Well, first of all I'm pushing 63 and my Ultra Black Turbo takes about 30 years off me as soon as I sit down and push "Start". Second, I used to hate my commute of about 22 miles in 90 minutes. With the Turbo it's added "quality time" in my day. Not only do I average 31mpg in those conditions I get tremendous fun drives when traffic is lighter. Biggest problem with my Turbo? Can't get used to feeling like I'm driving a Ferrari...so many gawks, stares and admirers!
Those wheels come from the factory on a NA V with Style & Tech packs. Not available on the Turbo but you could trade out either at the dealer or from someone on this site.

Nice! Thank you. I'm a Firefighter here in NY and I have a 60 mile round trip 4 days a week on windy roads. Did you hear anything on this matte paint?

I'm 46 and the Veloster caught my eye the first time I saw it. After driving a few 2012 Normally Aspirated Velosters (NAV) I knew that it was my next car - once they made a turbo version.

I've owned some decent BMWs and Mercedes before but was looking for a cool, fast, affordable and reliable car that I could buy new after owning and maintaining those types of cars.

Interestingly enough, you will not be the first Veloster Turbo owner that also owns a GT500 in this forum! The VT is popular as a daily driver for a lot of people that own "real" performance cars.

The VT is fun to drive and is one of the cheapest ways to buy 200hp. It is lightweight, comes well-appointed, gets great mileage and has a 100k mile drive-train warranty.

That said, it is not a GTI or a WRX or even a Civic Si when it comes to performance. It is pretty close to those cars though and costs a lot less, and isn't as harsh as the GTI and isn't a maintenance nightmare like the WRX and isn't boring and impractical like the Civic Si.

The Matte Grey paint on the VT is the cheapest, by far, matte paint job on the market. According to most matte paint VT owners here it is very easy to maintain if you accept its unique maintenance needs.

Hi I'm a matte grey owner and I love it. Don't let the dealers or other people tell you that it's hard to Maintain etc. 10,000kms this winter and not a single problem. I took it to the coin op carwash and rinsed it when the salt got out of control.

The care kit they give u is pretty awesome. Seal it when u get the car and u shouldn't have any problems. I haven't had any staining issues at all.

LOL that's what I love about the VT, it stands out differrently from the rest. One week before I purchased mine I went to the dealer with the wife and two friends. Unfortunately no VT's were available but the n/a V that was there was fully loaded and they were like, "Alex, you should get that one." Nevertheless I told them to just wait and see; the following week my white VT showed up, my wife then suddenly was astonished at the difference between the two (VT & N/A V) and said, "thank God you didn't listen to me last week" LOL

Yes, this car isn't a Si, GTI, WRX, FRS but doesn't mean that you can't do a few tweeks to improve its performance since visually the car you pretty much dont have to do anything to it.

his is the only thing that scares me. Rubbing in one spot to long and burnishing the paint. Let's say you want to clean Bird crap or bugs off the paint. I know you have to soak the car but sometimes it gets stubborn and one might rub harder. So how hard or easy would it be to burnish?

Right that was something that concerned me too. But at the time there was no one that could answer my concerns.

The car comes with a kit, in North America. Wash and use the sealer right away. There is also a cleaner that comes with the kit. Spray wait the wipe off. Tar, bugs, bird crap are no match. U need to rub it pretty hard and in the same spot for it to buff or shine. It's very durable. U will love it when u see it.

Thank you so much. Can you seal it as many times as you want? Is it like as many times as you seal it it gets better?

BMWs with matte or frost paint come with a special bird crap and bug remover solvent too.

It's hard to get past the idea that rubbing on the finish and using abrasives because that has been the norm for 100 years.

The general consensus is that these matte finishes are more durable and require less care. But you have to accept the new ways to maintain the finish.
