Hello all,

I don't have a Veloster but the car look is WOW.

I have a mazdaspeed 3 2008 stg3 (357WHP with GT2871R turbo) and I begin my search to replace the car in 2013.

I try to found somes info on ECU reflash system like Cobbtuning or any software like Versatuner to do the re-calibration of the VT ECU database.

(Sorry if somes grammatical mistake the french is my first language)

If you have somes information on software or reflash tool please post

Thanks a lot

Why replace that ? .... VT won't get close to that without throwing down stoopid cash.

I spoke with SFR and they said we would have one by next year since they are currently working on the 2013 Genesis Coupe ones... so if you could wait a bit we will eventually have a reliable ecu reflash.

Here is the thing about the MazdaSpeed3 and the Dodge Neon SRT 4 and the first gen Subaru WRX's.

How many do you see around anymore?

All those cars are a full generation behind the VT and none of them came without any kind of decent warranty - apparently for good reason.

So here is how it works now. You use variable cam timing on both cams, direct fuel injection and a turbo that is integrated into the exhaust header with a servo controlled wastegate. That's how Hyundai, BMW, Audi and Ford are doing it now and the rest are following.

But Hyundai has got the edge with the VT. The VT makes 125hp per liter which is on par with Focus ST and more than the BMW or Audi engines. None of them can touch 38mpg and none of them offer anything near a 100,000 mile warranty. That mix of power, efficiency and reliability is unmatched by any other car available today.

The ECU in the VT doesn't have an EPROM that holds a handful of parameters like in the old Bosch days, it's an actual CPU that is processing way more data than with previous cars.

If your plan is to come out with a new VT ECU that is better than what is already offered by Hyundai in a motor that already outperforms BMW, Audi and Ford I'm all ears.

stone I agree with you on alot of points..

but running low timing, and that rich AFR as turbosocks posted... there comes to a point where factories do things for emmissions reasons

many cars these days can pick up power and MPG with a tune, however it wouldnt pass emissions with strict areas. Car companies ship things out that are emissions compliant across the board ecu wise and for some places throw an extra cat on it and call it a day

I didn't know where to put this bit of info exactly, but this seems like a good place since it has to do with the title.

Our R&D guy here said that for the new T-/GDI engines that are in Hyundai's/Kia's said that it's so difficult for people to do an ECU flash because all of the information is closed. So difficult that it has even taken a few years for Koreans to come up with a flash for the cars here and that even now, there are only 2 shops in all of Korea that can do it correctly. 2 -- and they are small stores. In a land of more than 50 million where most phone/TV/batteries come from and most people own one of the latest smartphone, elementary school kids own smartphones and the land of the fastest internet, only a handful of people (maybe less) can actually do it and they are not about to sell their flash across borders any time soon.

That being said, it doesn't mean its impossible (it's been done), but it may take a while for an ecu flash to pop up in the US or elsewhere if there haven't been people already trying day and night to re-flash the GDI engines.

do you think these shops woudl be willing to flash our ecus and ship them back or woudl it be possible to buy a new ecu from them and send ours for a core swap i dont htink people really care where the flash comes from as long as it gets done that is all !

There was a reputable tuner in the US looking for a VT to R&D on, but no one wanted to participate.

BTR did the custom reflash on the SEMA ARK Veloster, but who knows if they will ever make one for mass production.

It was SFR but I dont think they ever found a car to work on. They might have or are planning on buying their own. BTR just got around to the 13 Genesis and they have one tune for one of the 4 engine/tranny combos, so who knows if and when they will have a tune for the VT.

Thats great. They were having trouble finding one. Their tunes for the 13 Genesis are very very promising. I had their basic canned tune on my old Genesis and it felt like a totally different car from stock. My 13 will get tuned in the spring.

i've called them and emailed them.. and haven't gotten anything back.. they're like 2.5 hours from me.. and i'd definitely work with them.. but if they don't return my messages then there isn't much I can do. that being said personally i'm not super keen on tuning my brand new car. I"m currently working with a couple people to bring bolt on parts to .. at least that wont void my warranty TOO much lol
