I am looking at painting the center gray portion of the plastic engine cover to the same color as the vehicle itself. I think it would look quite nice. I am just wondering on what kind of paint brand to use and how to apply it. I know the wording in the middle is quite small for a spray to be applied. So in this case, would a paint brush or foam brush be best? Please post ideas

I have seem multiple people post about using platidip for the cover. But if i was to use anything else i would try to make sure to tape off the stuff i did want painted with FrogTape - Home Depot sells it. Sticks very well and creates amazingly straight lines.

Krylon fusion spray paint. Used it on my last car. Works like magic. It's made for plastic.

Can it withstand the heat of the engine? to actually make it look better, I will be spraying the outer 2 Black portions of the cover as I believe will look better than just the center LOL

I did quite a few components the last car in the bay and never had any issues with heat.

When painting the plastic engine cover, do I have to follow the Dupli-Color steps? like sanding, priming, painting, and clear coating. Can I just repaint and clear coat it? Any recommendations?

When I did mine I just made sure the surface was clean. The fusion paint I used shouldn't need anything like that since it is made to bond to plastic. The clear cost is only if you feel it needs the extra protection. Under the hood a clear probably isn't necessary since you rarely touch it. As long as you pot a few coats on, shouldn't have to worry about primer.

Nevermind LOL. I just Googled and found a great example of what I wanna do. Except instead of making the 3 fins on either side orange, they will be black.

Whats your input?

I've had good results with Krylon Fusion paint on several previous uses. It does just what it says it will do and is very permanent.

I don't think that the engine cover gets that hot - especially on the top surface. I would confirm that though first.

Fusion has lots more colors from when I did this. They only had like 4 colors then. They have much more now. Although you can always mix custom dip.
