Back in February this year I was on holidays in the USA and I saw heaps of these on the road and thought, hey, that looks different, I wonder how they drive? So as soon as I got back, I went along for a test drive at my local Hyundai dealer. Loved the handling. Loved the steering. Loved the standard kit. Hated the power (or lack there of - 103kw!) and discarded the idea instantly.

A couple of months pass, and low and behold my thoughts got answered by a Hyundai facebook post informing everyone that the release date of the new SR Turbo model had been announced, and it was only a couple days away! So the research began.

Over the next couple of days I found a stack of online reviews from different sites that had just had their test day in the car, and they all loved it. Suspension? Upgraded! Steering? Upgraded! Standard Features? Upgraded! Power? A whopping 50% increase to 150kw and 265nm of torque! And better yet, peak torque all the way from 1750rpm to 4500! Needless to say, 3 weeks later, this shows up in my driveway :woot:

That was last Tuesday. Picked it up with 16km on the clock. As of tonight, it has a little under 800km lol its been a big week ;)

Living with this car on a daily basis so far has been great. Keep the rpm below 2200 (Which it has plenty of power to do) around town and it will give you 7.5-8L/100 in traffic. Cruise at the speed limit on the highway and it will give 5.9-6.2L/100. Open it up and you would be unlucky to crack as high as 11 or 12.

Handling is good, steering is fast (very fast) and very direct, you point and it will go there (this would be in part from the local suspension and steering upgrade the Australian model got, and also the new tyres I put on it)

This thing craps all over my old MY10 Lancer for interior quality, fit and finish. It feels tighter everywhere, much more European than Korean.

First thing I changed was the wheels, that happened in the first 24 hours of ownership lol I just couldn't stand the stock wheels that were on the car. These were replaced by a set of 18x8 Versus Eurolace with some new super grippy Achilles 123s rubber.

Anyway, enough of me rambling on, time for some pics! The car is dirty in these shots but still came out looking excellent. It goes in tomorrow for a full detail, wax, lacquer, the whole deal. When it comes back to me, any birds shitting on it better be careful because their shit will bounce off and head straight back for them!

More pics to come! Stay tuned :)

Pics look awesome, I love the rims!!! I really wish we had the clear reflectors in the headlights here in Canada, it really cleans up the front end without the orange. I also like the SR emblems on the front quarter panels.

Very awesome pics! That sicker on the rear window has got to go though . Digging the clear corners in the headlights as mentioned above and I wish that I had automatic climate control, but alas it's not available in the US market.

Yep, i have seen the orange in pics and it looks a bit out of place :( SR emblems are good too, just one other little thing that makes this stand out more than the base model V

Auto climate is the best! I pretty well always leave it on 23 and let the car sort itself out. As for the sticker, I told the dealer not too, but they put it on anyway, and it is some really hard vinyl as I pick at it only little flecks come off it is almost impossible to remove! The 1500 service will be up shortly, I am going to make them remove it for me because it shouldnt have been there in the first place lol

Looks awesome mate, glad to have another VT owner on the same Continent. Haha, and within easy driving range too.

I really love the right hand drive, wish I could get that in the states
Arn't the Canadian cars RHD? I can never remember if Canada followed the brits with the whole RHD thing.

So if the Canadian cars ARE RHD, is there anything that would stop you buying one from there and using it in America?
