I make too much boost!!! Now let me explain: We checked the BOV and it was good. The only time we could get it to act up was in a heat soak condition. We ran the car for a good 15 minutes then parked to let it heat soak for about 5. Bingo, fluttering BOV. Now, let me say that I've known this mechanic at the dealer for 15 years, and he is very well trained and very good. The first thing he asked was, "Are you sure you don't have a tune?" and of course I don't. So now we go into theorizing mode. We know the BOV is working correctly, so it must be opening to relieve boost, Why? (Theory) when the IC heat soaks the spring in the cheap factory BOV weakens and allows the valve to open. Now, why doesn't this happen on others? (Theory) with the Injen intake and the Magnaflow exhaust the engine is able to flow more air in and out and makes more boost. enough boost that the weak spring can not hold it closed. (note 1) Luckily I have ordered a FMIC from one of the forum members so I think the problem will be solved when I install it.
On a side note: I asked, "Is it a BOV or Recirculating Valve?" He said, " It is a BOV that recirculates verses one that vents to the atmosphere."
And, just to stir the pot on another thread, I asked about 93 octane versus 87 octane. He said that the ECU will allow the timimg to advance with the 93 octane and you should see 10 to 12 hp increase.
(note 1) this is just a theory and of course yours is welcome and appreciated.
