Well we bought a very well kept 95k manual Veloster base in March...had it for a week and totalled it on a deer. I liked the red and the paint job the lot did on the rims so I felt bad about that. In that week, my wife sort of fell in love with the car so I wanted to get her another Velo. Finding one with the options, in the condition, and in our price range took many, many, many hours of scouring the net, but it brought me to a 2013 turbo 85k manual in matte gray with the ultimate package and windows already tinted. The paint isn't in as good a shape on the red one, but 90% of the problem is the hood which I finally covered with wind deflector. Short term plan is to go to 17" tires with matte black rims and it goes in for four new door speakers on Tuesday as even the "premium" sound system in all the Velos we test drove sounded like crap to me. Had to drive 300 miles one way to get it, but I definitely like the added oomph under the hood. Finally after a month of hell with searching and rental cars and obstinate insurance companies, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel as I now have the insurance payout from the original red one in hand.
One of them indeed did have the cone issue and I was going to fix it myself when I sat and listened with the engine off and noticed two other speakers were going so I just decided to have a guy do all four. Even in the Velos we test drove that had four working door speakers I thought the sound I was getting was pretty shallow and almost tinny. Too many things for me to do with my weekends without having to spend an entire day pulling the skins off every door, probably breaking one or two plastic clips in the process and having to run to town to get more (1/2 hour one way), making sure I have the right connectors, drilling out rivets...blah, blah, blah. Instead I will spend this weekend putting lowers on my bike and testing out Beasley's on the matte paint job Good lookin' out!
Update: Four pioneer midranges replaced the stocks and it sounds 4x better. If I felt like investing in a five channel amp and sub it would be even more gooderer, but saving for some new rims and tires so right now, better is good enough.
