HID's

Hey wus up guys. I recently picked up my Elite White VTurbo on 12/16/12 (XMAS present) and little by little wanted to start making a couple changes if all possible. I wanted to start with a pair of HID's for the car but I was curious where I may find the best price with ballast; I would like to keep it as a plug and play and would hate to start dealing with wiring things up, etc. You're help would be greatly appreciated!

do you want best price or best performance? because for the best price you'll get marginally better output then stock.. for best performance it's a noticeable upgrade but around 2-3 times the price of one of the the bargain ones
elecblue06, thanks for the help man. What would I be looking at ($) going by best performance? thanks again!
What I found about the Veloster Turbo's headlight system is that, due to the CANbus and Pulse Width Modulation, installing a working set of HIDs can be a little on the tricky side. I've gone through install with ballast only, ballast with relay harness, then ballast with relay harness and capacitor and now it's throwing these weird vehicle codes because the car's CANbus communication system does not like the feedback from the capacitor. The CANbus system detects that, through the use of relays, one of the lightbulb wasn't plugged in and will wig-out.

Some people have had some luck with their Veloster Turbos. I have not. Symptoms started with bulbs that stay lit when the engine is not running, and then lights flicker out one by one after the engine is fired up*. Then relay harness is added, but it burned out the relay within a couple of days due to the PWM nature of the headlight. After capacitors were added, the car started to behave with weird electrical problems, that's when I decided to give up on this particular kit. IMO whatever HID you decide to go with, you'll have to address both the CANbus and PWM or else you'll likely have trouble with the HID down the road, since both systems will play HAVOC on the ballast.

* The first symptom should have been a dead give-away, but only after some research. It appears the car sends a "diagnostic" signal through the CANbus to the headlights once the engine is running, and that's what causes the ballast to freak and shut-down, since it appears to the system that a headlight bulb is out.

So that being said, are plug -n- plays out of the question? could it be due to the car still being too new to the aftermarket world?

I don't know. Again, some here have had success with their plug-n-play kits. I have not. I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of H11 kits from $$$TheRetrofitSource.com$$$ with their fancy "CANbus" harness to see if it will resolve my problem to my satisfaction. IMO, it's got little to nothing to do with the Veloster Turbo being "new." CANbus and PWM cars have been on the market for about 2 years now, and if you do a search for "CANbus and PWM HID" you will see hundreds, if not thousands, of threads on various make and models, and the feedback you'll receive is going to be very similar to what I gave you. It depends. Some people have had success simply by plugging and playing, some have had success with a hacked together relay harness and capacitor with diode, but NO ONE can tell you for sure if it's working properly, or if it's going to crap out in 6 months.

For example, mine worked great for 2 days after the relay install. Then the relay died. Turns out either the PWM on the headlights is screwing with the relay opening and closing rapidly, or the check signals from the CANbus is killing it. One way or another. Mine just crapped out, luckily for me, before my 30 day return period is up.

So, after installing 3000k HID fog kit from DD, I noticed that in the fog light assembly there is a "bulb cap" which covers 2/3 of the HID bulb. And I think because of the bulb cap, 3000k HID effect is drastically toned down.

3000k HIDs definitely don't overpower the low beam HIDs, which maybe OK with most folks. And looking straight the car you notice that light is mostly white with yellow tint; yellow is more pronounced at night.

You will notice in the pic above how much of the bulb is covered.

Have any of you peeps, with HID fog-light kits, removed bulb cap from fog-light assembly?

Nope im perfectly content with the caps in place.
I wish there was a company that made an HID bulb that worked as well as the stock bulbs in our projectors :(
Didn't want to start I new thread

How is running HID in the fog lights , I have heard the housing can not ( will melt ) hold up
Where did you guys mount the fog light ballasts? Also, is a relay required for the fogs?
