So i'm waiting for my manual Veloster T to come to the dealership in 2 weeks, and i guess i can't wait so ive been reading around , and everyone is mentioning the wheel hop and the wipers coming on... is this something thats caused by the stiff suspension or the wheels?:disappointed: There better be a way to fix it! I guess i wanted to hear the some feedback from the current VT owners.

I saw a video on YouTube that shows a guy doing a review of the car, boston red, and he was able to do the wheel hop and yes, the visor comes down and the wipers turn on by themselves. Here is the link:

It seems like the wheel hop might be pretty bad when launching. I haven't launched my car hard yet though so I can't comment much..

I am going to probably have the nameless engine mount bushing before I launch the car so I shouldn't have to worry about wheel hop really :p

I just don't understand people hard-on for expecting a car to do things as if it were going to be raced on a track. If you want a track car get a miata or brz, this car is built for real world driving while keeping in mind drag racing and moto-X on roadways will just end up with you crashing and possibly dying or killing someone else in any car you choose to drive. I guess if you need to be able to brag to your friends and hang out at the donut shop you might want to get a GTI instead...Also launching any car especially one you just paid for is just plain stupid unless you a baller and money isn't a thing, then why did you even get a hyundai??

I would worry about the extra vibrations effect on the peripheral components and noise your going to get by stiffening the mounts.

i'm not planning on beating the crap out of it, but i will ocassionally put the pedal to the metal , because it is the reason why i preordered a Veloster Turbo, instead of the regular one.

You can reduce wheel hop with stiffer mounts and even a top mount brace. there is always a physical tradeoff though, the energy has to go somewhere else.

Can I just ask what is going on with your profile pic? I've had a few beers and am just wondering if that is you in the pic or some Movie poster/actor person?
Sorry.... Microbrews talking.

I've not experienced wheel hop. But, I've also not launched yet. And... Probably won't. BUT,that doesn't mean I don't cram the accelerator to the floor in 2nd through the rest of the gear box. From my experience, the best part about the VT (6spd manual) is that about 2700rpm, the turbo kicks in, and about 4k I shift up. This car is awesome. And the suspension can be a bit bumpy if I'm on it through a tight bumpy turn, but that's when it feels most like a racing car. I like feeling the back end kick out a bit...keeps you on your toes. I am a week and a half in, and driven it a lot. I'm at 1500 miles already.l.and sure the pace won't continue, but it's been very impressive so far. I'm. In. Love. Enjoy!!!

regarding vibration from the mount upgrade.. There wont be that much vibration from one poly mount. Well enough to bother someone concerned with wheel hop anyway.. If you don't care about wheel hop or will ever launch your car then there really is no point for doing anything about it.

I had a solid and a poly roll stop mount in my tiburon and it was the best thing I ever did for wheel hop. the vibration wasn't to bad either.

You can also get those silly torque dampers instead of doing mount upgrades (im sure they will make one some day)

Also, traction bars will really help with wheel hop..

Again, I have yet to experience how bad the wheel hop is and probably wont ever have a reason to be concerned.

That said, I will still upgrade the mount because I like the feel and would like to have a DIY for anyone in the future who wants to do it.

It's really funny how one half baked car review on youtube can cause so much backlash! lol.. this is testing by a sample of one, and it likely has to do with the surface this guy was on when he dumped the clutch at 4000 rpms.. I suggest, don't do this with you car, even if it's a VW or Honda.. It's really obvious they were preoccupied with the idea that they got the wheel to bounce. The sound of the hopping wheel is emphasized to create more controversy. I have no idea where these guys even get these cars to test? With so few views, who is going to give them a car to beat up? They probably know someone at a dealership and are doing this to someone's car that will be bought later. Let me just say that the suspension is shared with the non-turbo version of the car, so if you are going to be driving your VT that hard, just upgrade the suspension. It's that simple..

Yes, I'd like to hear if anyone has found a "working" solution to the problem other than "don't dump the clutch".

We bought a nice little car with a twin-scroll to just grandma around town in? I'm not buyin that. I bought the car to have some fun in!

The true solution is to launch correctly; but we arent all professional drivers and it's still difficult to get the RPMs at just the right spot when trying to launch.

I bet everyone here has those Kumho Solus KH25. I guarantee if you put those Michelin Pilot Super Sport there will be zero wheel hop.
For the summer I run Hankook V12 Evo performance summer tires. They might not match the grip of the Super Sport, but they are a significantly improvement over the stock tires when it comes to wet/dry traction. I have experienced wheel hop numerous times in the dry in 1st gear. Also in 2nd gear when the road is just slightly damp.

Suffice to say that the wheel hop is fundamental in the suspension setup of the Veloster. Better tires alone certainly is not the answer. Having said that, most FWD vehicles are very traction limited at hard launch.

Oh yeah I agree with you.

If your are trying to "peel out" there is no point other than just trying to burn rubber. If you are trying to have a good launch, I think anything over 4k rpm is over kill and will experience wheel hop. 4k at launch shouldn't have wheel hop and still have a great launch.
