Well, I got my Injen cold air intake at the end of last week and installed the short ram version within 10 minutes of the box showing up on my doorstep. And yes, the install took all of 10 minutes--it was really that straight-forward. Injen did a great job with this setup. Not only do you get their usual top-notch quality, but the fitment was spot-on. Sometimes with aftermarket intakes, the mounting locations take a bit of imagination to get them just right, but this new Injen intake was as snug as could be. I was very happy to see how easily it was installed. I also like the fact that Injen made this as close to bolt-up as possible in regard to the recirc tube. That also bolts right on with no modification needed at all. This is the perfect option for intake setups in my opinion.

In case you're wondering why I kept the short ram version, it's because I'm planning to do some dyno runs of my VT and wanted to do a before-and-after of the SRI vs CAI. I'm sure Injen will provide dyno's for us of their product, but I specifically want to see how a catback exhaust effects these numbers as well. When I was doing the install, I took a look at the cold air extension and saw that it would be very straight-forward as well. The second pipe just clamps right on in place of the filter (which is moved down into the wheel well).

As far as the performance gains based on a "rear end evaluation", I can definitely feel a nice increase in the mid-range. When 2nd and 3rd gear kick in, you really feel it pull harder when compared to stock. Sound-wise, it's got a neat little "sucking" sound--and the factory BPV comes to life as well! I'm NOT a fan of loud BOV's, so the BPV is more than enough for my tastes. It's got a nice "whoosh" without being obnoxious. Overall, I'm very happy with the performance of this setup.

if the short ram came with a heat shield I'd be more interested
Heat shields can certainly be useful, but with such a small engine and also due to the placement of the filter, I just can't see it being very effective. There are two sources for direct cold air to blow right into the filter, and one of them is shooting air in the opposite direction of where engine heat would be coming from. That counter-active air flow could conceivably relegate a heat shield to being a mere aesthetic addition. At least that's the way I see it when I was looking down at this setup on the car.

hmm even if it was sealed and the hood vents were active?

Hey Mike,

I just installed my Injen short ram intake this past weekend. I must say that for someone who won't even do his own oil changes, this was really easy. I was a little intimidated at first, but once I started the job I had no real issues at all. I do have a couple of questions though. Right in front of the new air filter, I have a box that says "Turbo" on top. I don't see it in your photo and it did cause me to have a little trouble fitting the filter onto the intake pipe. Is that something that you removed? Also, the "whoosh" sound I get is more than I expected. Auto part Vehicle Engine Car

the funny thing is the plastic snorkel thingy is not even functional... just unnecessary restriction pop it off and the straight pipe piece just under it ..
Seriously??? Even without a new intake can I take it off without affecting anything?

Turbo Snorkel Huh? Sounds like it helps it breath underwater.... Hope I never need that, but I did manage to work around it so I may as well leave it in. Thanks for the info.

I really like the way it feels on the Butt Dyno. Definitely more accelleration! I also love the way it looks when I open the hood. The Whooshing Air sound was more than I expected, but I am getting used to it.

Ok Guys - I'm reading all this info on CAI's, BOV's, SRI's and the like. I haven't had a Turbo since I bought a 93 RX-7 Twin Turbo brand new in June 1992. I just traded in my 2012 Civic Si for a 2015 Turbo R-Spec that had 4500 miles on it as it was the Service Mgr's Demo. So - it's basically "new" and I personally don't want to go messing with the Intake too much due to Warrantee issues - but - on my Civic I DID do one mod that gave me some peace of mind driving down here in South FL during the Rainy Season….I took OFF a 90-degree bend on the Intake Pipe just before the Airbox/Air Cleaner so it would NOT 'suck water" from low down in the Left Front Wheelwell - now I'm looking at the Veloster Intake and looks pretty hard to "trace" just "where" it begins the Intake Process - and how to do a comparable mod to IT……………any advice?? Sure don't want to have to get into removing Front Bumpers, Wheelwell Liners, etc…….Larry

Look up the poor-mans SRI. It will maintain most of the stock intake but give a slight improvement to the air flow.

Well - I was able to loosen the Airbox from its mounts - but - I was UNable to detach it from the plastic Intake Piping - so had to retighten and leave it as is for now…….will just have to take the chance of the Factory Intake System sucking water into the engine and ruining it when I have to go thru standing water down here that is a fact of life…..

How much for the injen intake? Did you get it from a supporting vendor? And not to get off topic but, any exhaust suggestions? Don't need a tune for either of these do you?
