Hey

So I'm thinking about embarking on painting my calipers, and I figure the easiest way is to jack up the car on one side at a time, and throw it on a couple of stands.

I see the regular pinch seam jack points for the spare tire jack by the wheels, but if I use those, where do I slip my jack stands?

I am hesitant about using the pinch welds for lifting points.

The reason being I'm worried about bending them over and distorting the metal.

Are there no lifting point specifically pointed out for the VT?

What do the dealers use when lifting the car?

Dealers normally have hoists with four arms: one arm for each pinch weld. At the end of each arm is a pad with a groove so the metal doesn't get damaged. They hoist the car to head high.

There are a couple of options and for the front I lift the car from the pinch weld using a trolley jack with a grooved ice hockey puck to prevent damage, and then I support it with jack stands under the frame just behind the front wishbone. It's very strong there. A second option is to lift the car from the front cross member and use jack stands, and again I would use the frame behind the wishbone. I haven't looked at the rear so I don't know of a good place for axle stands.
