So I decided to go back and check on my front speaker install and I found that the bottom edge of the speaker surround was being compressed by the door grill. Now they are dimpled on the bottom edge.
I took off the speaker and noticed there was about 1/8" speaker frame on the spacer left over from the factory speaker. I removed it and I also shaved down some of the honeycomb reinforcements on the bottom edge of the grill. Now the surround just barely touches under flex. Is that too close still to the surround? Are the dimples going to ruin my 2 day old speakers?

Almost. I was able to get the speaker to sit a little further in. I can see a gap, maybe 1/16th" or less from the grill to the surround. I'm sure if I crank it they will touch. I'm just going to get a piece of block foam and place it under the speaker. I'll cut it so it only pushes back on the grill to give me maybe another 1/8" clearance. I think that should do it.
Is the speaker grill clearance enough so that the speaker will not touch it on maximum excursion?
