K&N SRI w/heat shield for VT

Just got an email from K&N that SRI ($291) is now available for VT: 69-5312TS - K&N 69 Series Typhoon Kits, Performance Intake Kit direct from K&N
Too expensive if you ask me, although that heat shield design has given me some prefab ideas.

I think it looks pretty good. Very clean, almost OEM looking. Isolating the filter would certainly help over a normal SRI like the Injen thats exposed.
It looks good and the gains from it are pretty impressive. If it is just the heat shield that is providing the extra gains versus the normal SRI's, we need some vendor action going on here to save us. Pretty big penny for this!

There's a few of us "working" on it. My plan is to make one compatible with the Injen but that could work with pretty much any of them.

And tube appears to be about 1/2" smaller in diameter than Injen. I am curious to know how much clearance there is between K&N SRI and fuel rail. I also thought it was odd that the mount attaches to the throttle body, but hey, it works.
I like the look of that, I am curios to see what the selling price will be once different Vendors start carrying it.
Looks nice, and that pricing direct from K&N should be at the high end of the spectrum. I would expect retailers to discount that to bring it in line with market.

That shield should be very easy to fab out of gauge metal, 1 hole, 2 bends and a grommet from Specter to fit your SRI tube. Pull filter silicone lube the tube and slip it on. Any sheet metal shop could build that very easily and inexpensively. The aluminium sheet would be the most expensive part of the project.
1 hole, 2 bends and a grommet ... lube the tube and slip it on.
That's what she said.

I made the mental prediction that you would reply to such fertile material as that and left it so formatted for your enjoyment.

So I said to her, I said "Thank you for falling on my sword for our enjoyment."

I totally would get the K&N intake. I had this on my forte koup and loved it. Just waiting for the price to go down a bit.
I just bought one from the only place online that had it for less than $250 and free shipping. Here's the place I found it: K&N Air Intake Systems for Hyundai - K&N Air Intake (Typhoon Series) 2013 Hyundai Veloster 1.6 Turbo
Please posts some pics and notes about your install after you receive it. I am also interested.
I will do that. I also found this so you can see what all is involved.

Damn, I was waiting for months for something like this from K&N, but gave up and got the Injen SRI.

Although, with the K&N I was hoping for a black plastic tube. And although the shield is nice, is it really necessary on our cars? It doesn't look like the filter area is that close to heat. Plus that shielding looks like its blocking the existing air sources.
Just got an email from autoanything.com, K&N intake is 15% off for the next 3 days.
