We finally got around to installing the Ksports before our last event---needed them for the track! I'm super familiar with the product as we sell them for several other model cars so the installation was very simple. It's literally about 7 bolts per side in the front---3 on the top mounts, the two knuckle bolts and then a swaybar link/abs wire deal and your done. Everything went smoothly in the front, and then the rear took just a couple of minutes (rack it up, support the beam and undo the shock---lower and remove spring/put in Ksport spring and adjuster sleeve/shock and done!). We set it down, took measurements and it was surprisingly close all the way around in height from Ksports out of the box position. We adjusted the shock length (Ksport uses a threaded body to clevis mount so you can adjust the length without changing springload/losing any shock travel---you'll never bottom the shock out/run out of up travel with this setup) and the shock dampening (the fronts easy---rear you have to remove the shock and insert an allen---there's 36 positions of adjustability---we started out about 22 clicks from soft in the rear and 20 clicks in the front) and got the ride height where we wanted it with a bit of chassis rake. I should note that you can go really low in the front---we went 2", but could have gone 2.5" if we needed---the rear we went 1.75" and probably could have got a bit more before the tire's start having issues (we're running HUGE 245/35/17's for the track).
Our setup/rates are more aggressive than most of the other companies, so we're offering three different versions- one for the street, one autocross/track and finally a race version for cars that will be trailered everywhere. We took the track setup out, and I've been driving it almost daily for a few weeks now---the front is compliant and a reasonable ride while the back is much stiffer---not harsh---but more similar to a performance car ride. We take it easy over speedbumps and you can certainly feel every undulation in the road. My kids ride back there on the way to school every morning and thinks it's cool!
I'll also note that I didn't have time to get it aligned the first night so I ended up driving on it for a couple of days before alignment and even the the car was extremely low, there was very little toe change/car drove straight/no bump steer which says a lot for the engineers at Hyundai---they got it right!
After alignment we headed out to autoclub speedway---we took it easy our first session scrubbing in the new tires and still managed to do pretty well. The setup is really suited for the track/autocross---it's very neutral---has a slight push in the highspeed corners, you can get it to rotate/lift throttle oversteer in the slower corners, and overall the balance get's better as the front tires go off so it becomes more neutral as the session goes on! The second day we made some dampening adjustments in the front and some tirepressure adjustments in the back and found some more grip/speed and ended up going 2 seconds faster for a 2:04 minute lap---that's about where the midpac spec miata's and spec porsche 944's run! Not too bad for a street car. I'll post some more pics of the install tomorrow, but for now here's a bunch of random track photo's-
