all of these coilovers in the $1000 dollar and under range are all built with the same basic design/valving cartridges and using nearly the same process for springs---some of the companies we've mentioned here in the thread have never actually seen a Veloster and have either ordered a competitor shock, bought a stock set and made some calculations, or gone to the same manufacturer and just ordered it with different colored hardware/branding logo's. If I a guy really wanted to and had a pocket full of cash, in 4-6 weeks he could have his own brand of coilovers without doing any R&D at all---it's already been done...The key to the coilovers is (in addition to having them actually fit properly and having all the brackets/tabs line up...) getting the springrate and the valving cartridge right. The spring controls the overall height and "bounce" while the valving slows down the movement---all of the these use the same type of valving/adjustment---some have 8, 16, 36 etc positions, but the range is similar, if not identical between 0 and max...you'll come across brands that have a little bit better "fit/finish" than the others which is what Kyle probably means above---and then guys like me will take the cars on the road/to the track and have the company change the spring rate and maybe the valving cartridge to the next stiffest/softest unit (think like A, B, or C) to get it a little better. We've seen/installed all the different ones and one of the reasons we chose the brand we did is because they're local and are willing to make changes/listen---and typically they'll do it rather quickly. I don't have the patience to email back and forth to tawain/japan etc...trying to get them to change a spring rate/make a change/correct an issue...
There's nothing wrong with any of the units mentioned in the thread---especially if they fit correctly---a couple of the unit above have a poorly designed rear lower mount that puts the shock body in contact with the ground if you go super low, but all in all they are remarkably similar.
With that said I guess I classified them all as "bottom of the barrel"---the manufactures that are the mid-grade folks (and consequently have a bigger price tag) would be bilistein/Koni/KW---they don't have coilovers available yet although some have shock/struts available. They are completely different units inside and out and use far better machining process's/higher tolerances and superior design/technology in dampening---and cold wound springs which are much more consistent...The higher end stuff we sell get's up into the $3k-$5k a set range---companies like MOTON, JRZ, OHLINS, PENSKE, make high end race coilovers/dampners that have amazing performance/adjustability etc...at this level you can have anything made and it doesn't cost a penny more.
Now very few of us have a need for a $4k race dampner, and it'll be a while before the midrange stuff becomes available---until then we've got the units mentioned above---and everyone will have a story/can find a story/has a personal experience etc...about which units they like and or don't like...I'd bet if someone bought the Meagan racing set and if it didn't leak/fit properly and it had the same spring rate as the KSPORT/STANCE/NGM etc that they'd be perfectly happy...
