no, but your right starting it in neutral and reving it with a drop to d will kill the transmission

Holding the brakes, being in "drive" and revving the motor will get the turbo spooling faster, making the launch a bit more powerful.

Doing so is not the best way to treat the torque converter however, and there will surely be a heat buildup if you continue to do it multiple times.

I've done it myself and it does get the tires to break loose.

I don't plan on keeping to do it, that's unless you pull up along side me at the stop light. lol

im curios about this, I thought Hyundai would not allow both peddles to be pressed (safely reasons). Brake always overrides the accelerator. Now the hand brake is a different story.

I know if you are at a stop and put it in sport mode, you can put it in 2nd gear. You may lose some time when launching, but would prevent wheel hop and recover some of the lost time. Not sure if it work out better that way or not, I'll let you guys tell me. I don't get many opportunities to beat on mine!

Hello I just joined the forums yesterday. I own a 2016 veloster turbo and have tried to rev when braking, it would not allow me to do so. Is there a reason for that and is anyone having the same thing happen?

"Launching" an automatic transmission is a very bad idea. There is always a connection between the motor and the transmission unlike in a manual. Thus when you rev an automatic with the brake depressed the oil/fluid that sits between the two overheats and breaks down and you also risk seriously damaging the torque converter. The car is designed to handle loads at idle speeds, not anything above that.

Best way to launch an automatic is to sell it and buy a manual.

Joking aside. Without a stall converter (not sure if people still call them that) you only have not so good options to maximize your launch. One of the perks of a twin scroll turbo is that you don't need a lot of revs to get it spooling.

Edit: I just realized how old this thread was...

There's a very good chance Hyundai has programmed the tranny to prevent this kind of thing. This is their first compact 7 speed (Dual clutch?) and I'm gonna guess they don't want drivers breaking it.
