Is there a way to lock the doors of the veloster turbo (with proximity key) after you've started it? I've tried physically locking the driver's door after starting the car (from inside by pushing the start button) and the lock just pops back out to unlocked. Similarly, you pressing the button on the door handle outside the car also will not lock the doors.

I'm asking because there are times when I'd rather start the car manually and leave it running for a few minutes, locked (e.g. to run into a store) rather than use the bluelink app, and I just can't seem to figure this out. Any advice would be much appreciated - thanks!

cant you set it up to lock when you get about 10mph ?ours is set like that from factory. otherwise doesn't the switch where your power windows are lock and un lock it ?

take the key fob with you and lock the doors using the key fob (from outside). the car will not lock if the key fob is still in the car. it's a proximity key fob so it knows if the key fob is in the car or not or near and will not lock of it knows the fob is inside the car to prevent you from locking yourself out.

I'm pretty sure the fob won't lock the car from the outside when the car is running.

I've tried it before, you lock from the outside, it automatically opens it again immediately. Humm....

Almost right. You can start the car, shut the door and walk away and it'll continue to run. It will beep tho to let you know it's still running.
So as AZG23 said, remove the metal key from the fob and physically lock the drivers door with it and walk away with the key and the fob in your pocket .. the engine will stay running but the car is locked.
If someone was to break a window and climb in (or get in thru the roof), they could steal the car because the engine is running, but not be able to restart if they turn it off (but they could if you leave the fob inside the car).
I don't like this feature as I feel Hyundai should have made the engine cut off (just as a remote starter would) if you get in and try to drive off without the fob. The reason for this is better security (someone gets in and drives away) or just in case you misplace the fob in between leaving the vehicle running and coming back with just the key, jumping in and driving off, only to get to your destination and find you don't have the fob to restart it.

Thinking about it, I feel the engine should cut out if the fob leaves the vehicle (under all situations) and you touch the brake pedal (as long as the vehicle is stationary).

This is embarrassing. Was there a cover on the driver's side door handle for the key when I purchased it? I would have sworn that it did not have a key lock. Yes, I just went out and checked and yes, it has a key lock.

Anyway, my problem is with the unlocking of the car. I get that it is a Federal regulation that cars lock themselves once they are rolling so the doors don't open in an accident. But I hate that the passenger door remains locked after I hit the button on the driver's door handle to unlock the car. Is there a way to let the passenger hit the button on their door handle when the FOB is present to unlock the door? My last car did not have the auto-lock feature so I am still used to having a passenger be able to enter the car without me having to do anything. I like the funky grab handle on the door and it does not present any problems for me even though my mitts are to big to fit in there while driving. But it is clumsy to have to hit the unlock button for the passenger all the time.

I just push the door button twice or the fob unlock twice to get passenger door to unlock.
When I picked up my car the sales guy said to take the key with you when you do valet at a hotel. If all you need is to get in the car you have the key. Now where did they park my car?

Hold the trip button on the steering wheel and u will see a settings menu scroll through and u will see something about locks. I don't have my VT with me and I can't remember the exact steps.

Press and hold down the trip button for a few seconds .. the trip display window will change into a menu where you can cycle thru some of the car settings (including how and when the doors lock).

The door unlocks as soon as u press the lock button if the motor is running.

The only way to lock the car with the engine running is with the physical key in the drivers door lock. The car won't (or shouldn't) let you lock it with door lock switches .. inside or outside.
