Stay stock with the filters. They're not expensive and better built than most on the market. Hyundai also posted a service bulletin about using factory filters so they have a hard on for that if your concerned about warranty.

What about liquid moly?

Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I tried this stuff once and posted an oil analysis sheet on it.

A famous member here who had all of his extremely helpful posts nuked a while back told me based on these results that the oil is just "meh". Much better off using Penzoil or Motul. A good oil, just not for our cars.

Just a quick review again; too much calcium, surprisingly low amount of molybdenum (since the product has Moly in the name), higher than normal iron wear, moderate levels of phosphorus & zinc (indicator of ZDDP). Do not know if this is PAO-based or ester-based. My guess is not.

There is no such thing as Group III PAO, so it appears to be a semi-synthetic oil.

Group III = hydrocracked mineral-based
Group III+ = natural gas-based
Group IV = PAO-based
Group V = Ester-based

Personally, I'd stay away from any Group III oil, especially one with high calcium.

Following up on the AMSOIL front. They finally reformulated Signature Series to be anti-LSPI and in the process, there's a new interim oil specification since GF-6 will not be ready until 2019.

GF-5 Plus (aka SN Plus) is the new spec.

https://fuelsandlubes.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/ILSAC-GF-5-draft-Jul-20-2017-LSPI.pdf

Doesn't describe how the LSPI test is performed, only that the maximum number of LSPI events is 5. Also does not say in what timeframe.

Anyway, we can now add reformulated AMSOIL Signature Series to the short list of anti-LSPI oils.

I'll look for VOAs on BITOG.

I've been using Amsoil SS from day one, so I was curious about their re formulation and called their tech dept. was told there was zero lspi events, when up to 5 were allowed. Guess that means I'm free to mash the pedal

Not being a petroleum engineer, I don't even play one on TV, I am asking the seasoned pros here.

Just so you know, Warren oil is the cheap shit the local gas stations carry.

Their MAG1 offerings all have NOACK readings of 12-13%. That's bad.

Flashpoint is 226-227° C. Average.

Calcium weight is .135% and judging by the percentage of the other elements seems to be comparatively high.
Their literature makes no mention of GF-5 Plus, nor GF-6 nor LSPI.

No mention of PAO (Group IV) or ester (Group V) base stocks.

I'd avoid it unless I was cutting it with CERMA oil and it would likely have to be like a buck a quart.

Thanks for checking it out. I had never heard of this brand until this morning. Wasn't sure if it was the next great thing out there or not.

I will be steering clear of it then. Keeping PUP as my go to and T6 as back up.

"I said use cheap oil and change it every 3k miles/6 months. And to be clear the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum of old (2013) was really good stuff, but since it was reformulated with GTL stocks a lot of it's appeal went by the wayside (NOACK used to 6% and now it's 11%). Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is also not dexos1 gen 2 certified. This is a GM certification that was created to address issues common to TGDI engines, like crankshaft bearing wear, LSPI, and intake valve deposits. Regular Pennzoil Platinum is better than Ultra Platinum for TGDI use."

This guy on ankther forum is trying to tell me PP is better than PUP for our GDI engines lol whyyyy?

I just purchased a 2013 VT with 102K. I am going to be doing an oil change for the first time. Can anyone tell me if Pennzoil Platinum is a good synth to use and if so which one as there is Pennzoil Platinum, Pennzoil Platinum Euro, and Pennzoil Platinum Ultra. All three are currently on sale for $32cdn or less at my local Canadian Tire.
