Hi all and happy Easter.

feel like a bit of a "nuffy" asking this one, but curiosity has got the better of me, so here goes.

My VT came with a composite (audio L (white) & R (red) + video (yellow) to 3.5mm stereo jack.
I assume its to connect to some AV device to get video and audio to the head unit ??? Correct ???

If so ..... what portable devices have composite outputs these days. The only devices I have with composite outputs are my DVD/VCR player ... and these are hardly portable.

None of the Apple or Android stuff have composite outputs ... so what is the cable used for??

Enough sniggering at my ignorance .... be nice .... its Easter.

Thanks in advance

Ok ... thanks for that.

So there is another cable/gizmo involved .... now its a little clearer. A quick eBay search has shown me what you mean.

Has anyone been able to use this cable (combined with some interfacing gizmo that attaches to the micro USB port) with an Android device ??

The idea was that a PS3 or XBox360 would be plugged in to the video input and run off the AC outlet.

But the AC outlet can't run either of those devices and analog video is all but abandoned now. The whole notion of carrying a game console in such a small car is ridiculous too.

There are a couple options that still make sense for analog video input today, mainly a previous generation Android and a previous generation iPod. Both of them need a special cable and require some effort to produce analog video on the road.

thank you axe. nobody cares about ps3vsxbox. aint nobody got time for that bs.

I don't know exactly what I would use that input for. though you can still play cool games on it for the passenger when on a long trip. I remember this controller I bought either at a flea market or a mall and it has a cable (yellow, white, red) and you can play a bunch of little games on it.

but other than that I have no clue what you'd use that input for. what's it for anyways?

Another question pertaining to the "mystery wire" topic. What is that wire connected to the piece on the left side of the front grille? It turns and pulls out. I was assuming its the cars belly button or something.

this is what I was talking about. it's a controller like the Nintendo 64 and has a bunch of games on it like super Mario bros and tetris and a whole bunch of other old school games.

There are two ways to use the analog video input today.

The first is a ~2 year old high-end Android 2.3 phone that has analog video out through the 3mm jack or maybe a custom connector.

The second is a ~3 year old iPod Touch that has analog video out through the 3mm jack. Some of the older iPods have video out too and often through a custom connector but the video is low resolution and difficult to port to them.
