I finally took the plunge and bought some wheels and tires---for the track stuff we do I wanted to get as wide/short as possible and I had a pretty good idea that I could stuff some 245/35/17's under there with a little bit of work. I sell the Andros wheel's here at the shop---they were 17x8 and faily economical---about $140 a wheel---they come in at 18lbs and with the offset get the tire out there pretty good. For tires we're limited to the 140uq/treadwear rating by classs so I went with the Toyo R1R's---they have that 245/35/17 oddball size that I was after---it's a full inch wider/full inch shorter than the oem stuff---it's kind of goofy looking without lowering the car---allthought the whole car sit's a 1/2" lower with the tires...So I lost about 6lbs per corner of rotating weight (25lbs lighter woowoo!!), gained some gearing with the small diameter which is noticeable spinning it around the block, and got a half inch lower to boot. I'm installing Ksports today and I'll post some pics when I'm done with that. I can tell you after driving around the block, that they are noiser, firmer, but don't have any rubbing issues going forward/back at full lock---as I lower the car though, it's going to get tricky...! Nice wheels but should have been at least 18" IMHO.
Thanks guys! Huge difference driving home too---I'll post a KSPORT review and some pics tomorrow on that thread in the suspension section. I think 18's would have looked great, except for me they're too heavy, no one makes the size tire I need, and most touring cars run 17's which is where this car is headed. Next year it'll end up gutted and caged and I'll be able to use these rim's as spares---I think I'll probably end up with some 14lb SSR's or Compotmotive's for the racecar...

You should weigh one of these wheels with the tire on it and then weigh the stock wheels with the tire on it and see the diff. I am just curios though. I bet with the mpg will improve. BTW if the overall wheel diameter the same?

I did!! First post---46.something lbs for stock and 40lbs for the new ones---the new wheels are one inch shorter and one inch wider. I wont run these on the car except when it's at the track---and when I'm at the track I get about 12mpg...

So you only saved a total of 24lbs? not too bad. You should have filled the tires with helium to make it even lighter... lol...Also your wheels are going to have to spin more to make up the distance difference the 18" do. RIGHT? Am I thinking correctly? 1 inch" shorter means your speedo will read 70mph when you could be doing less? But DAMN 1 inch wider? MAD GRIP BRO!

Exactly---we gained some gearing/acceleration---it's noticeable---between the grip and the new setup Im hoping to take off about 6-8 seconds at my local track. I'm at the track this weekend, but I haven't had this car there---I'll be able to reference out the gains though comparing the lap times from some of my other cars at both tracks---I'm shooting a bunch of video for an online program/show and should be able to post the footage---I'll link it to this thread.

I like the look! I am also wanting some SSR wheels... le-sigh. The wife is constantly giving me the mean look since I bought the VT. :haha:

These are what I'm looking at, 15.4 lbs. per rim (17x8):

I like those too. With the price of SSR's I probably won't ever buy them, but I do love them so.
