I had a mitsubishi couple years ago, (well.. more than a couple, 98' lol) painted pretty much all metal parts and came out pretty good. I'm considering painting the side skirts of my VT during the 4 of July wekend (not sure about color yet, or effect), but my question is since its plastic, and not metal do i need to follow the same process? Wash, Clean w grease and wax remover, Sand(400 grit), Clean, Wet sand again, Dry w static cloth, Adhesion Promoter, Primer Sealer, Basecoat, Clear Coat? How many coats, paint type and time?, I know laquer shows good results but dont know if it works well on plastic. The car is a 2013, sleeps in a garage all day, minimal exposure to sunlight. I have never work on plastic b4, and i dont wanna mess it up :/ thank u guys for all the input in advance! Wish i had some pics of my old mitsu. She had a bloody red/dark blue marble effect all over...miss her.

I think you will want to use a finer grit during the sanding as to not a rare the surface (as it is softer than the steel) and make sure your primer is for urathane parts.

Like a 100 grit? thnx for the tip bout urathane. They have come up w so much stuff in the last 10 years its crazy! How bout the steps, am i missing one?

no, the higher number, the more fine it is. use around 800 or so. are these raw plastic new skirts, or the already painted stockers? if already painted, just clean, sand once, prime, and paint.

Factory new skirts (grey), my car is only like 4 months old. Thnx for the tip

Just plasti-dip them that way you can alternate colors very easily. www.dipyourcar.com

super easy just spray in light coats and for some reason its not right just peel it off.

interesting, strange blue look, i wonder what's the plastdip life for doing an entire car like that...

If you were going to do it for just the winter, that is not a bad idea lol. The stuff is very durable, and it is the weirdest thing when you peel it off, like peeling off a latex glove that was tacked to your skin almost, then it shrivels into nothing when it is off

As of right now it lasts up to 3 years, you can get the matte colors as well as glossy ones as long as you use the glossifier and the clear combo. It has also been proven that it will stay on the car over 180 miles an hour.
