I guess most of us would like to hear our exhaust note, at least a little. I know Magnaflow makes a stainless axle back exhaust for the NA
Veloster. Does anyone know if the same exhaust system fits the turbo model ?

Who all is interested in a audible exhaust system ?:cool2: If you are interested, please reply to this thread.

it will be very close to fitting but I think there would need to be some minor modifications.

I would NEVER waste that much money on an axle back system though. The stock piping on the VTurbo is 2.5" and bent quite well.

I will be taking ours to an exhaust shop and getting a couple resonators installed (one to replace stock) and one to replace the muffler and having them route the dual piping back to the stock outlet location. probably will cost ~200$ for the entire thing including the labor.

Being my first Turbo car, what happens when you run a really free flowing exhaust like the one Turbosocks is talking about doing? Will this not change exhaust pressures which will effect the spool up of the turbo charger itself? Ex. Lose bottom end torque but possibly gain a little in the top end HP???

you want ZERO backpressure on a turbo setup.. the BEST exhaust on a turbo car is no exhaust.. That is why people do the exhaust dumps when racing so the exhaust does not have to flow through as much piping.

With the way the turbo manifold, turbo and o2 housing is designed it is not going to negatively affect spool up. We are only talking about modifying the piping AFTER the cat.

can you post a video or sound clip after you get it done and maybe what brand you went with

I appreciate your advice and what you think should be done, but I probably will just buy a manufactured system and get the warranty that goes with it, but when I looked it up there was no price displayed. I also would like along lasting stainless steel system. How much do you think it costs anyway & What makes you think it may not fit perfectly ?

Thanks though

i just don't think everything will line up the same as i think the muffler is different in the NA V.

The stock exhaust LOOKs stainless and will probably outlast the lifetime of any of us owning the car. I will be getting stainless resonators so will not have to worry about anything rusting out for at least 7 years. I much prefer the same power gains while spending a 25% of the money.

I will post sound clips, pictures, video, exact parts I used as soon as I get the system done.

the cost on the axle back is like 500$ for magnaflow and 600$ for the borla.. might be able to find it cheaper somewhere. Then you still retain the stock resonator and 60% of the stock exhaust system for 550$-650$ (to include shipping).

The Magnaflow catback system is 600$ and will be really close to bolting up also. I am just not 100% on the hanger locations being the same and there will definitely be a difference in where the exhaust system mates up to the front of the car.

Stock exhaust systems are made these days to last the life of the car. It is no longer the days of shitty quality exhaust that fall off after 4-5 years..

Even the warranties that typically come with something like an exhaust are nothing special, usually like 1 year.. Even the 'lifetime' warranties still will require you to ship back the old system (on your dime) to get the replacement and often are a hassle.

Has anyone considered dynomax ultraflow Muffler? They are a straight through design.I had a pair on my old mustang and they sounded awesome.
I thought about some straight through mufflers but on a turbo car the turbo is a great muffler already. Just need some resonating to keep the sound output down a bit.

If you keep the cat on the car, it will help keep the exhaust quieter also.

The SRT-4 comes STOCK without any mufflers and only a resonator and sounded amazing.. Even sounded great (just a bit loud) when I removed the cat.

Out of curiosity, how do you keep carbon from building up on the exhaust side impeller?
There really is no way to prevent buildup on the exhaust wheel. The only way to keep it from building up as quickly is with a tune (lean out the mixture) so there isn't as much fuel in the exhaust. Nothing to worry about though really. Never have carbon build up issues on a turbo.

My only concern with those is that they usually dump out somewhere beneath the car. Potential for exhaust gasses to enter passenger compartment. Also will be quite noticeable in winter when there is no exhaust coming from the tail pipes, only from under the car.

Here's a video of a VT in Korea with a variable exhaust that's controlled by remote control.
Not the best, but it's something.
I wonder how good it will sound under pressure, I am hoping the turbo sounds good through all the engine noise :)
