Apologies if this has already been posted, I'm new to this forum.

Anyways when I connect my iphone with bluetooth I lose all notification sounds, the only sound that comes through the car speakers are incoming call rings, but no text message beeps, no e-mail beeps, also if running Google maps on phone the voice directions don't get spoken. Is there a fix to this?

Your phone is playing the audio through the BT link. If you are not set to BT mode you audio is essentially play to nothing. Put your VT into BT audio mode and your google maps and notifications will play over it. It's a pain if you are using FM/xm/cd.

You are driving. You shouldn't be checking your email, reading texts or anything else.
I want to say you can disable AirPlay and it will all route through the phones speaker, but I've sort of gotten used to it being off while driving.

Yes confirmed, setting Airplay to phone instead of car plays notification sounds through phone's speakers and maintain bluetooth connection for calls.
