Hello, I recently blew up my engine (turns out that I blew a hole through my piston) and replaced it and have begun putting my engine back together except for one thing, I mixed up my MLAs by mistake!!! Please tell me there is hope to getting these in their proper positions. I have tried measuring them using feeler gauges but I am afraid that I am doing this incorrectly. Can someone explain the steps necessary to properly measure between the cam and the MLA? I believe the measurements for exhaust are 0.022 - 0.028 and intake is 0.017 - 0.23. But when I measure I can’t even fit the minimum size between the cam and the MLA. Does the cam need to be bolted down before I measure with the feeler gauge?

What is an MLA?
I don't have much experience with measuring clearances between valve assemblies and cams (and none on our cars) but, I always needed the cams installed and torqued to spec to get the clearances measured correctly.
Don't know if that helps much. Probably not. lol
