I'm getting ready to get new tires on my VT. I want the Super Sort 4S in 245-40-18 but Discount Tire says they won't it. My factory tires are the 225-40-18's. I guess it's because the wheels are 7.5".

Any suggestions, the 4S tires only come in the 245 size. They said I can go 235-40-18 but that eliminates that tire.

A 245 on a 7.5" rim wouldn't net you much more tire than a 215-225 due to pinching. It would also be really weird in handling. Like vague then darty depending on inputs.

245/40R18 do fit and clear on car on a VT oem wheel or aftermarket wheel with similar specs. They grip, drive, handle much better than stock size tire if at proper air pressure. Only issue would be if you were to push the car very hard and then the difference on a stock wheel vs wider wheel would be more apparent.

I decided to just get the Conti Extreme Contact Sport in 235

No idea how you guys are fitting anything wider than 225s on the car. My car is lowered on coilovers with some 18x8 +42 offset wheels and my fender still scrapes my 225 tires when turning aggressively fast.

Do you have coilovers or lowering springs? I have 235/40/17's on 17x9's for autocross from socal and they run 245 wide with the slight stretch. I don't have problems with scraping but the stiffer coilovers and pierce front sway bar probably keep things from leaning too much.

The 235/40/18's fit fine with no clearance issues, plenty of room.

That's good to hear. I have been looking for white rims in 17" for my blue R Spec and the ones that the seller is selling is 17X9 +42. I want to use the widest possible rim and tire set up on stock height R Spec Springs.I don't mind a slight poke. So what ratio do I need on the 245 X17" tire ,35 or 40?

Here's how the 235/40/18's look on the stock 2016 wheels.

Okay I need a positive answer to my questions before I make a offer on a new set of smaller diameter new wider rims and tires. I have my eye on a full set of 17X9 rims with a 42 off set. Now I'm not lowering my R Spec. Sooo would 245-40-17's fit or should I go with 235-40-17's. My VT is done with the suspension and frame mods and I just have the rims and tires left and would like to get the widest rims and tires on my baby for my mountian roads where I live before I get my R Spec dyno tuned with the 17" rims on it. Thanks.

This would be like running 25 mm spacer on stock wheels. If guys running that no issues then you're good to go. 245/40 should be a good tire size for you with a tune.

You can fit a 255 width tire on, but not on those wheels without poking. You should look for a set that is 17"x8" +45-49.

What exact wheels are we talking about here?

Okay, so your saying I can fit a even bigger 255-40-17 tire on my stock height VT useing a 17X8 rim with off set between 45-49? If this is true then that is what I'll look for. The 255-40-17 is a perfect match for the stock 225-40-18 stock set up as far as diameter specs..With 255's all around my VT will look like a serious corner carver.
