Here is a great review - http://www.edmunds.com/hyundai/veloster/2013/road-test.html

At the end they had this to say:
The Veloster Turbo begs for stickier summer tires and a rortier exhaust, and those revised knuckles open the door to track-friendly Brembo brakes. Whether you bolt that stuff on yourself or wait for Hyundai to announce the inevitable R-spec in-house example is up to you, but we know where we're going with ours...

Have at it, it's a poll...

Hard to say really. The more goodies they add, the more it'll cost. And it's close enough to the 2.0T GenCoupe already, though they're really two different vehicles (FWD/RWD, 2+2/2+0.5, etc.). The VT is built on the Accent platform isn't it? Meaning that adding on a smaller chasis while the GenCoupe is on the Genesis platform, so they're adding from a larger platform, which I suppose is much easier.

Let's brainstorm what would be in the R-Spec, realistically:

-Larger brakes (doubt Brembo's will fit)
-Upgraded suspension
-The 'magical' LSD, literally....

Let's brainstorm what would be in the R-Spec, realistically:
My list would be
- hotass colors
- special R-Spec graphics; subtle little badges someplace
- solid cloth black interior; don't make heated leather mandatory
- sunroof as an option, not tied into a package
- bigger rear wing
- several packages so car could be equipped with the bells and whistles, or without
- upgraded suspension; a tad lower, a tad stiffer
- traditional gear driven limited slip; I could be open to something more modern if the technology is proven, however, getting a torque shift cannot be achieved by applying brakes to the unweighted wheel, unacceptable technology
- revised intake and exhaust and programming for some type of power bump even if only a little

I think some of this could actually be done and it would cost less, so overall I would not see the R Spec as being anywhere close to the price bump we see in the VT over the NA V

Hmm.. I think it might eventually get an R-spec but the probability isn't that high.

I don't see them ever doing a rear indy setup for the suspension and without that, calling it an 'r-spec' would be kind of silly as the torsion does have its limits..

Regardless of that, there is no 'track' model of the Veloster like there is the Gcoupe and I am not quite sure what all they could do to make an R-spec model to differentiate between base and ultimate.

Of course the R-spec would be based off of the base model (118lbs lighter) but I don't see a very big point for bigger brakes since 12" rotors and the beefy front calipers should do very well.

I doubt they would do a power jump in a R-spec version, as they don't on the Gcoupe.

IF they do an R-spec on this car, I think it will be more of a novelty than anything higher performing like the Gcoupe.

Some things I would like to see in a Rspec:

manual front cloth seats (lighter/cheaper)
upgraded pads and dimpled/slotted rotors (better stopping and less fade racing)
Limited Slip Differential (better in the corners)
Summer 'Performance' Tires (225/40/18)
tuned suspension (not necessarily much stiffer, but tuned for the corners better)
R-spec badges
few unique colors (electrolyte green, Marmalade, Copper)
tuned exhaust note
Re-designed wheels with a bit less of an offset (42 vs. 49) or 18x8" that are a bit sportier and somewhat lighter.

All of this, priced slightly under the Ultimate package, based on the Base model seems like it would be a good, realistic R-spec car without getting to crazy by adding power or tuning it (killing economy or reliability)

With the LSD, suspension and tires, the car would be MUCH better in the corners and at the track.

The upgraded (but not Brembo) rotors/pads would make it much better for aggressive racing on a track.

Black Cloth with red trim and manually adjustable seats are back to the basics while saving on money and weight. Replace the TURBO with R-spec.

Throwing in R-spec only US colors would set it apart from a regular VTurbo even more.

Using badges similar to the Gen Coupe wing badges but like V R-spec would add to the flair of the car.

The car would probably accelerate faster with all of these mods due to losing a few pounds and having respectable tires from the factory and most definitely would handle better with the tires, wider track and wider profile (225)

Oddly enough, I like that idea....
I just hate the idea of having an R Spec come out just after I go and bur an Ultimate VT
And then of course, would an R Spec actually be better than my Ultimate after I get done modding my car to my needs

^^^ this is exactly why i do NOT care about the R-spec.. I know it WOULD be based off of the base because that is the nature of r-spec.. I would rather have the integrated navigation, backup camera, pano roof and stuff and do the mods myself.

It will cost me less to get mine to a comparable 'r-spec' status (minus the Limited Slip) than the package would probably cost over the base model (i'd guess 2000$)

Would it be nice to just be able to buy an r-spec? yeah!

I would just rather do my own suspension, pick my own sportier tires, my own lighter wheels and brake setup while keeping my pano roof, navigation and backup camera.

I have followed the Genesis Coupe for a couple years now, had my heart set on it, but then the announcement of the VT was born. Now I have decided on the VT. Anyway, it is amazing what they offer for ECU options for the Genesis coupe with flashes and outright purchases of ECU's, tailored to your brand specific mods. I would imagine we will see the same if not similar options for the VT, we will just have to wait... once again.

Reading through this all again I got to thinking, I sure would have loved it if there had been someway to get good sporty cloth seats in the VT
I know a lot of people like leather, but I'm just not a fan
Like Socks says, most of the so called R Spec things I can and plan to do, but I won't change seats, I'll just live with them, and not really like them...

I just hope someday these guys make an LSD for the Veloster

im sure quaife or kaaz will have something someday..

I would actually even consider a phantom grip for this car. They are cheap and proven to work quite well and I doubt anyone will be pushing a ton of power through the diff to cause problems with the phantom grip. It is just the install that really sucks.

I'll be holding out for the Quaife only because I have experienced them in the past and was very impressed
I also have a metallurgist friend who did some testing on a few Quaife units and he said they were not only made really, really well, but they were made out of extremely good materials

I don't know squat about this Phantom Grip... off to google I go.

yeah, quaife, if available is the way to go.

Phantom Grip is a differential insert to make your regular differential act like a LSD. IT obviously is not the best thing in the world, but pretty simple and proven well. Sure there have been some failure with people pushing limits and some defects, but you will get that in any product from any brand.

alright guies i think i have summed up quite a few things about the car the auto dual clutch trans seems the way to go IF you are going to the smart thing and add a cryo system on the after cooler and a snow system to cool the inner air to get an all around extremely dense
charge in the combustion chamber to get a major boost in the power for a little over 500 bucks and the reason the dual clutch auto is the
thing to have for a power boost is that only this trans is out of the sonata/ optima both have the 275 hp 2.0 turbo engine so in conclusion the whole powertrain is able to handle alot more power where as the mt is out of the elantra and is already being slightly more taxed to its power handling ability as for handeling has anyone taken theirs to the track yet and put her to its paces after i put my 600 brake in miles on her i hit my local track and i pushed her hard!! as a former auto cross and rally cross racer (had to quit cause i am a daddy now) i found that the brakes are responsive and supprisingly do not succomb to heat and fade as bad as i thought they would and the calipers ar very qood for factory i think the best way to go on a small wallet will be vented and slotted rotors with ceramic composit pads. and guies sorry for my grammer lol body roll and the cars ablilty to hold the line when you are on the raggid edge is great i love my VT and i cant wait to putt on the goodies oh i am sorry for my long windedness but i hope yualll find my opinions and expierience helpful
as for un sprung weight... wheels anything made of magniesieum and for rubber well there is too many choises to go with but i would probably be going with a directional tread in an firestone indy 500 oval tire b/c they are super sticky and they are a great all around good tire well the baby is crying gtg laget guys
