The radar companies sell detectors to us and guns to the police, with a gap between, so you get state of the art detector and 6-12 months later police get something to beat it and the cycle continues. I have chosen not to play that expensive game and to study my route so that I don't get tkts too often. I've been taking same route to work for about 5 years and I get stopped about 1-2 times a year and get tkts about 1 every 2 years or so.

I use the Valentine One and it's great. If you drive on the same roads and highways most of the time, the V1 shows you were the static radars are (ones used for DOT/traffic flow etc). It's saved me many times because it shows the count of radar signals; so if you know that there is a static radar coming up (typically around an overpass) and the V1 starts beeping and flashing more than one signal, you know a cop is waiting and trying to hide behind the static signal. Also, it shows you the direction it's coming from; front, back, and side.

They are expensive, but well worth it. And they will upgrade them if the make improvements.
