On eBay they sell the Hyundai OEM filters in large lots, so I will be buying in bulk to keep the price down. And since every hyundai except for maybe just the equus uses the exact same filter, I can split the cost with friends. Its like 4$ a filter. That's fram talk!

Anytime a car manufacturer actually comes out and says, "Yeeeeeeah....we'd like everyone to use our oil filters, cause...ya know...you could severely damage your engine using something else" that's generally a good enough reason to use what they recommend.

I've had dealerships push their filters and products on me before, but ultimately, their techs say: "Use anything".
Never have I been told by a manufacturers mechanics to ONLY use their filters. Will using another filter RUIN your car? Who knows. However, I'm not one to tempt fate. It's not like they are charging $20 per filter or something. LOL

I think this is just one of those times it's easier to go with the flow, and have the peace of mind. Giving this as advice to others will ALWAYS be the correct answer. :eagerness:

Exactly what I thought too. Had the filters been more then 5 bucks I'd be skeptical. But I just got back from hyundai to give my wifes sonota an oil change it is was 4 bucks for a new filter. So yeah, I will be taking my vt to the dealer too. PLUS if I need a warranty clam, they can't blame the oil changes because it'll all be through them.

Lol I inquired about the completely unnecessary fuel additive that they say we require at 7500 miles, and the parts tech guy was so stupid he was like oh that's a kit that they do when you change the oil....i didn't have to to tell him how stupid he was so i just left and laughed.

I run my Veloster on premium unleaded which in Australia is high-detergent petrol. I took note of the requirement for fuel additive and when I bought a filter from a Hyundai dealer I bought the additive they use. The best time to use additive is on a full tank prior to an oil change, so that any additive that seeps past the rings is drained with the old oil. I was surprised by the fuel additive because I had a noticeably smoky drive before things settled down. I didn't think the additive was necessary but now I do.

I run my Veloster on Hyundai oil filters because they are cheap and I won't have warranty issues.

I think that the issue with the filters on Hyundais is only on the canister spin on type filters, and not the cartridge ones

the only fuel additive I ever use is seafoam, you can put it in the tank, and oil, to break up deposits. but while the seafoam is in the tank the car will run just ever so tiny roughly, and smoke a little, but the next time you feel up, it runs perfect, and my plugs looked perfect, when before i used the seafoam, they looked a little dingy. this was on my scion which isn't even gdi, so I imagine it would work wonders on a VT

I used seafoam at every oil change on my X. Pour half into the engine 30 miles before the change, pour a little into the vacuum lines right after the change, finish the can into the tank.
It would some like an artillery bombardment for a couple of minutes after, but was a rock solid motor!
