I've tried twice now to plasti-dip my front and rear emblems black. On both occasions the dip was lifting off the emblems when I was trying to peel it away so I just yanked it off. I did 3 coats, letting them dry 30 minutes in between coats and they still pulled up. I decided to do the whole front grill but I think I want to pull the rear badges off. Question is, what's the best way to re-apply them? I've heard 3M glue and 3M double sided tape. I've also heard to not use the glue and there's different adhesive levels of the tape. Suggestions???

If you want to go that route just buy new badges from Hyundai and paint them with real paint.

As for mounting them back on, 3M tape is your best choice.

3M Super Strong Automotive Attachment Tape, double sided tape, foam tape, 3M mounting tape

You may have to modify the tape a bit to get it around the edges and such.

I had a similar problem when I dipped mine. On the second try I got the front done without issue but I did more like 4 or 5 thin coats and waited longer for it to dry in between. For the back I took it out completely and then after it was done I put it back together with no tape at all.

I had 3M tape and it was the same kind as what is supplied from the factory, I decided not even to use it because it really wasnt necessary at all. Its been on there for over a month with no problems.

When I do decide to redo the back I will have it painted instead of dipped though. With any luck I won't need to redo the front because I don't plan on that emblem being there for much longer...

Its held on by adhesive. I suggest using a heat gun to heat up and then a pair of strong fishing line to pull it off.

I just taped it of in the rear. Used a sheet to cover the majority of the rear and cut a hole in it for the emblem.

The trick to getting the inside dip off.....razor blade, BRAND NEW.....can't stress that enough. If it isn't sharp enough then it won't sear the dip well and it will pull some from the badge. Then I used a toothpick to kind of roll it from the inside. Once there is enough to grab, pull slowly and it comes right out.

Originally there is the standard grey 3M doublesided tape on the back of the H. But there are 2 prongs from the back of the H that actually pin through the handle-hump piece. You have to be really careful taking the H off though because the bond from the tape is high and its kind of a bitch to remove it. I would strongly suggest a heat gun and very carefully work from the center out. If you pull from the first edge you start without breaking the bond on all of the adhesive, you will snap the plastic emblem. I worked it around little by little, it took some patience and time but it eventually was able to be pushed out from those back two prongs.

Since the prongs are kind of angled down and not 90° perpendicular from the emblem (you'll see what I mean when you take it apart) when it seats back in after dipping the tape really isn't necessary

Sorry I now wish I would have taken some pictures when I took it apart last week.

lol damn that's intense. i just used regular plastic sheets a la dexter. hell with the back i just masked off a thick border with extra wide blue painters tape and sprayed then use turtle wax bug and tar remover to wipe off overspay, it literally wipes it away in one effortless swipe.

So I talked to my buddy who is an extremely professional paint correction specialist and Orlando's best. He deals with emblem removas all the time. He said the best way to do the rear "Veloster" emblem is to pull it off and take my time. Let it dry for about 12 hours. The best emblem dips he's seen have been done this way. Also said the 3M tape work best just make sure to cut it correctly and measure before applying to the car. He said hair dryer, dental floss, an adhesive remover, 3M tape and paitence is all you need.

I think my weekend just turned into dipping my emblems (again) and wheels

^tbh i dont think that's necessary.

I mean i'm totally anal about doing things by the book and not only looking right but what I perceive to be flawless, which according to my wife is borderline ocd, but i believe taking them off to plasti dip is overkill, and not in a good way, it'll look identical to the T unless u botch the dipping. Now if you were removing to paint them or wrap them I understand but plasti dip is very malleable and idiot proof as it dries. all you really need is dip, tape, and some patience, (bug&tar remover for clean up and plastic sheets optional). I just think you could use that mod modding something else, but good luck!

I'll admit.....could have been a bit overkill. But that's my "garage sheet". Trust me, she knows. Lol.

And I used it because I'm quite lazy. While I had to use goo gone to take a minor amount of overspray off just below the sheet, I didn't want to do too much cleaning afterward. Lol.

However, I took the faster route and just waited around 10-15 minutes in between plastidip coats before letting them dry for about an hour or so. It turned out wonderfully Also instead of having to buy an adhesive remover I just used some nail polish remover I had and that worked just as great in getting the little remnants of glue off. Just as a warning the nail polish remover will strip any wax so make sure to put a fresh coat on affected areas.

When I took my dealer emblem off....I used something equivalent to dental floss that I got from work. Didn't work like I thought/hoped. I now have a small thing of touch up paint from the stealership. Lol
