Hi all. Was just down trying to replace the crankshaft position sensor (car is throwing codes p0016 and p0017) when I noticed this wire was cut...

I'm guessing this happened when I had the car in for a bumper replacement. Anyway, the wire goes to a sensor that sits right above the oil filter...

Can anyone tell me what sensor this is? Any chance it's the real reason for the codes?

i dont remember which one that is but your oil cooler gasket is failing... have to replace that whole aluminum unit above the filter since they dont make just a gasket. also will need coolant when you replace.

Alright, that wasn't so bad. This is the connector in component form. The trick is to keep the metal small enough to fit back in.

I don't have electronic soldering tools, but I did put some copper plumbing in this spring. Here is my setup. I also have some flux. As you can see, I broke part of the connector, but I was still able to salvage the remainder and solder the wire in place.

Time to bodge the wires. Somehow the gap was the perfect size for my crimpers. I shrink wrapped the crimp and used the leftover plastic sheathing from the old crankshaft sensor.

In theory the car should run better now that the mystery sensor is reconnected. +1hp.

the oil cooler gasket is a thick rubber squared o-ring like a cylinder with notches in it. who knows what kind of junk is inside :)
