So this might be a dumb question. I understand the benefit of the the twin scroll, but I'm confused as to why quad scroll turbos don't exist? I would think that since the amount of exhaust gas is the same, having 4 scrolls would actually lessen the turbo lag even more and increase fuel efficiency as well. Or is it that there is no added benefit of taking the exhaust from all 4 cylinders?

Or have people just not engineered a design for it yet.

Thanks, just trying to expand my knowledge.

I believe Quad Scroll does exist actually. I recall reading an article this week which mentioned it actually.

I don't see any added benefit on a 4 cylinder setup as their are only two sets of exhaust pulses. 1 and 4 are on the same stroke and 2,3 are on the other stroke.

The only way the quad scroll could work (this is just me speaking out of my ass) would be if all the cylinders fired at a different time, which may decrease engine efficiency but would provide smoother exhaust flow to the turbo. I think it would be detrimental by having an engine design like that though..

Now on a V8 there might be some use for a quad scroll SINGLE turbo setup as you could have un-equal length exhaust piping from each side of the motor to the turbo which would put a delay from one sides exhaust pulse to the other.

I still don't know if it would provide much benefit or not.
