Yes mate it looks heaps better. I haven't seen the actual size of the plate base area (for lack of a better phrase) cant tell clearly from the photo but do our slim plates fit the space properly?. How does the back look.

The 'block' is a tad bigger than the slimline plate - a slimline plate cover would fit pretty much exactly in there - this pic shows it a little clearer:

I went standard on the back, and am using the back plate frame with it still. I've seen one really nice system for both mounting and covering plates, and am thinking of getting that, but then I'm also considering cutting the front frame down and fusing the pieces together to keep the 'Veloster' frame, too.

I have polycarbonate ACT plates: slim at the front and full-sized at the rear, black with white lettering. My plates are a shade bigger than the tin plates on those pictures and just cover the front mounting block. I buy the plates without holes and drill them myself, slowly and carefully given that polycarbonate is brittle. I think polycarbonate looks better than tin, and slim plates look much better at the front regardless. When I get a chance I shall post some pictures of them.

The exhaust of mine is much blacker and sootier than above. I expect that like my previous direct injection car, that as soon as I clean the tips they will be black again.

A friend works for Canberra Connect and she swears the poly plates end up costing 5 x as much as tin puerly due to the fact that they break when drilled or even slightly bumped by another car.

I went tin standards all round as I bought them before the poly were released - 2002!

Might have to look at a slim tin front though - they do look better

Hey guys, ordered my slimline plates today - getting "VTRBO-1" white on red :D how long does it usually take for them to come through - the full 10 days?

Also just got my car back from getting graphic work done - I am pretty stoked at it.

I'm liking those graphics a lot, Tokra... I'm trying to find us a good graffiti wall for a photoshoot first up...

Full ten days plus some - mine took 21, and were (somewhat suspiciously) only sent after I called up checking on them, and were postmarked that day despite being told 'they were sent yesterday' when I rang. They MAY be available for pickup, sooner, if you opted for that.

They come in a thin yellow envelope, by normal post.

On hyundaithinktank.com they were asking Hyundai owners to choose graphics packages to be released by Hyundai and that was one of them. They had some pretty cool ones to choose from. I don't know which ones won though. I believe they were picking three.

Polycarbonate plates need a lot of care when drilling. Use a variable speed drill and press very slowly and take your time to drill the holes. Once they're mounted they are okay unless you smash into someone or they smash into you, but if you have tin plates they may be dented and need replacing anyway. Canberra drivers are tailgaters so if they smash you in the rear (Canberra has the highest incidence of front to rear smashes in the OECD at 46% of total reported smashes), the other driver's insurance will pay for the replacement plate. I had polycarbonates on my previous car and no problems with over 90,000km other than when I was deliberately rammed for doing 40 in a 40 zone, and I have them on my motorcycle and no problems with vibration and the hammering of 75mm of suspension travel.

The gloss finish and the crisp lettering looks better than tin. I chose black because it matches the near-black grille and the near-black fake rear diffuser.

The driver who rammed me was a contract driver and he lost his job, his ute and his house in the end! I had a witness and he was taken to court and by the time that happened he couldn't keep up his finance payments and his mortgage. His insurance company wouldn't pay for a deliberate act (surprise, surprise) so he had to pay the repairs to my car and my usage of a hire car for 10 days (about $4000 all up). Magistrate had no sympathy. My insurance company told me that reported rammings in Canberra and other Australian cities have become endemic. As you may remember we had someone in a ute ram a full-sized school bus about 18 months ago because it was travelling too slow!

WTF!!!, I thought SA drivers were bad and impatient drivers (probably due to our road system sucking big time) but Ive never heard of anyone purposely ramming here. Maybe a few hand gestures and colorful words but that's generally about it.

In Canberra ramming is common enough but it can end badly. The idiot who rammed the school bus was hauled through the court system and had to pay more than $20,000 costs for damage repair, replacement buses and other expenses, all not covered by insurance. I have known of others who seem to have been rammed but no charges were laid because of conflicting stories, but because it's almost always a rear-end smash the rammer has to pay insurance excesses. One work colleague was rammed and the other driver then sped from the scene, leaving the front of his car including number plate behind! He was done by the police for that.

I can't understand it. You deliberately smash the front of your car against the rear of the car in front because it's travelling too slow, even if it's travelling at the speed limit? How is having your car all smashed and damaged going to get you to your destination any faster? It beggars belief.

So my mods so far... Removed Muffler with straight through pipes welded from STD resonator to tail pipe exits, re-badged with Brenthon badges, tinted windows & custom sticker... I'm super happy with the result! I plan on replacing the STD resonator with a Magnaflow Muffler in the coming weeks and over the next year or so will replace STD wheels with some 19" ones, maybe something chrome (I love white with chrome - pls don't hate on me lol!) AND definitely going to get it Opti-Coated sooner rather than later. I love the results others have achieved, the wet look is soooo awesome!!
