Sorry, I know there were other posts on this, but I couldn't find it quickly with a search for spare tire. I recently bought a VT and didn't realize until I was filing away my window sticker yesterday that it said there was an inflator, but no spare. I am amazed. I do not want to drive without a spare. I work in a tough neighborhood, do not want to be stuck there!

Anyway, I then searched this forum & saw where someone said a sonata tire would fit. Is this the correct one:

Just want to be sure because it says Sonata hybrid...

THANKS!!!!!!

Well, if u took a box cutter blade like I did the inflated kit didn't do a freakin thing. Had to wait an hour on the tow truck. Much rather have a spare.

Crystal. I also have been trying to get a real spare tire. I emailed asking Hyudai and they first said they had one, and go to the dealer (Like I had not already done that). They said they had spare tire. I asked for the part number. Then they said the didn't have a spare tire yet, and that it would be soon. That was a few months ago. No word yet. I tried several wheel places online that seemed a bit offended by asking for a steel donut spare wheel. It seems odd Hyundai cannot come up with a US part number for spare tire, yet deliver VT's with a spare in Canada.

My dealer has a spare tire kit listed for the veloster in one of their accessories brochures, no tireof course. They do not have any listings for the VT like this. I plan to ping them on this when I order some parts tomorrow.

Keep it simple and put a full size spare in the back using an OEM turbo rim. You would also have a spare rim if you scuff one of yours. It sits up a bit in the well due to height but you got piece of mind. You would also need to buy a scissors jack.

You could use the spare from a Premuim/Base Genesis. Even a cheapo, no-name steel wheel will work. It doesnt have to be made by Hyundai. 5x114.3, 16" minimum and with an off set of +49 or lower.

Crystal, I understand ur concern i've been there. But the standard inflator will safely take u to the nearest shop so u can get ur tire replaced if u ever need to. Also if ur gonna swap tires u must make sure its the correct size for the VT or u can mess up alignment, suspension, who knows what else :/
Some1 mention Canadian dealers have standard spares, and i know some dealers in here do it also but it might take some research. Btw if ur neighborhoods is dat bad why don't u invest in a 9mm instead of a tire? :p

I think that what the OP is missing is that in a "Bad Neighborhood" that changing a tyre will require considerably more time than performing the tyre repair. However if safety is the paramount point, than investing in a set of run flats is the only solution. The time spent changing a flat (5-10 min), or airing up the tyre (3-6 min) vs. looking out your rear-view to see if sparks are shooting out the back from grinding the rim, driving to the nearest "safe" service center?
Less time as best I count it!! And can spot some wider rubber as well!

The main reason I want a spare is that I don't trust that the goop kit and pump will work in all situations. In most situations a goop kit will work, a simple plug kit will also work. I carry one of those with me and would use it (and have had to once in the driveway) before putting goop in the tire. On my route to work I've seen a few wheel breaking pot holes and was lucky enough to be able to dodge them. I've been driving close to 40 years and have used a spare only 5 or 6 times. They were never considered optional in the past. I'm not a fan of run flats either. My wifes car is a MINI S (not even a place for a spare) and we switched from run flats to regular tires. Much better ride and handling. We throw one of the old wheels in the back when we go very far as a spare.

I haven't looked but while on the topic, how do we use the kit?

The kit is a joke to me.

Guys be smart. if you get a flat on the freeway, don't pull over on the freeway. Drive off the freeway and exit the freeway to a parking lot or somewhere else safe. I don't want to see anyone here or anyone at all get hurt because you guys are pulled over on the freeway trying to use that stupid auto inflater. You can easily loose our life and depending on the situation end up being a closed casket.

And be careful with that fix a flat crap they give you. I don't recommend using it because it doesn't stop any leaks. it hardly slows a leak down. It just makes a mess for the tire installer (me) and can ruin your sensor. You might think "then why does Hyundai provide the fix a flat". Honestly, I don't know why they don't provide a spare let alone handing you a auto inflator with fix a flat. It isn't like one doesn't fit. Some people with VT's have them so why not provide it with all VT's.

If you are ever in a situation where you noticed your tire is flat, you probably already ruined the tire beyond repair, so just drive safely to a near buy garage where they sell tires.

What I think is the BEST thing for us to do with out a spare is to get a warranty through your dealer for your tires/rims. I have that for the sonata and already used it. Wife hit a pot whole and created an impact bubble on the sidewall. Took it to the dealer and informed them I have my tires/rims covered through MPP Warranty. Dealer installed a new tire and called MPP and had them pay. Had my wife had a blow out. MPP would have sent a tow truck and towed it to the dealer also for free. AND I pay a little less than $10 a month for it.

but trying to a spare kit would be a great think to get for the VT. Call your local dealer and get it through them. Not ebay. Ebay won't make sure it will fit the VT for you before buying it.

I am sure U.S. dealerships can get them . You just have to call and ask.

Don't forget that if you get a spare tire to carry, you will need the wrench to make it all work.

Someone mentioned a jack, but without a wrench all is useless.

I am seeing plenty of spare tire kits on Ebay but all claiming they are not for the Turbo. As far as I can tell the Turbo and normally aspirated model use the same bolt pattern and offset, likely the same pilot diameter so I really don't see why these wont work unless it is the diameter of the tire which is the problem.

Can anyone verify my speculation as to bolt circle and offset as well as pilot diameter?

ETA: I found it, it is a brake caliper clearance issue.
